Sounds like a thinly-veiled plot to make people switch to Vista.
Thank god I use Vista...Wait, what did I just say?
Doesn't sound like it's even thinly veiled. Looks more like an open declaration of war on those who don't want to "upgrade"
Here's an idea: if you want people to switch to something new, don't break the old one. Make the new one better. Le sigh.
With the hundreds of thousands of users running XP I am not certain that a few hundred complaints equal 'havoc'.
Having said that, though, I am glad I didn't accept the update yet.
I have been running XP SP3 RC1 for a while now and had no problems. I will Ghost my machine before updating to full XP SP3, probably in the next week or this weekend. That's just using Common Sense, something the world sees less and less of each day.
This thread is hilarious. All new Service Packs break some installs and there is always crowing about it on the internet, yet folks suddenly forget that and go running for the tinfoil hats just because XP isn't the current product anymore.
firefox superior IE inferior
Well im happy I just bought a Macbook Pro 2 weeks ago...
All I know is I will not be updating to SP3 any time soon.
Is it mandatory/ will auto update by itself? If so, I better watch out for that.
Yes, it's classed as a Critical update, so if you're set to auto-download updates, you'll get it.
Well, just turned that off.
As much as I typically dislike M$, I've pushed it to 2 PCs so far (one desktop, one laptop) and so far, I haven't hit any issues... We'll see how magic #3 works out next.
hah...i didnt even know they had a new service package coming out.
but since i know now, i dont think i'll be updating anytime soon.
Installed it, no problems whatsoever (aside from some permissions crap I had to change before I could install it). I wonder how many of those complaints are from people whose computers barely worked before installing SP3?
LOLZ -this lady I work with just clicked okay on her Updates notification and now she is freaking out because she is downloading SP3.
"Why is this taking so long? What is it doing?"
Did I mention we work in Tech Support.
Yes! Leopard has absolutely no stability and compatibility problems! I got a Macbook Pro 2 months ago and so far Vista (installed via bootcamp) is far more stable than OSX. But congrats on your purchase, it really is nice machine.
Anyway, I would bet that most computers with these problems barely worked before the upgrade, and most likely have some terribly written drivers or something else fouling things up. Oh well, gives an excuse to upgrade to Vista.... And yes, Vista is a great OS.
