Just curious to see if anyone has gone out and bought Windows Vista yet?

Was in Future Shop today (the Canadian equivalent to Best Buy which owes it) and was very tempted to snag a copy. Only real reason I thought twice was I wasn't sure if it was safe to get yet. Mostly due to I wasn't a 100% sure it can still run all the programs and hardware on my current system smoothly. That and I'm still iffy on all the bugs and problems it has or probably has and has yet to be discovered and or fixed. Still tempted to go and pick it up soonish, picked up XP on release and I was very satisfied with the improvements from 98/2000, so hence why I ask to see if Vista makes the same jump or not.

Anyway anyone got this yet? If so what do you think?

    Thoughts? Comments? Opinions?

I don't want to swtich because I fear Direct X 10 might not run on my card, even though it's pretty up to date (Geforce 7800 GS OC). It probably can. I also hear of slow-down issues, compatability problems and bugs. I don't want to buy an OS only to find A) It erases all my old files. B) Slows my machine. C) Sucks.

Could you elaborate on that? What are the problems with upgrading? Are they common? What sort of third-party issues? Is there a lot of software not working, or are there some hardware devices without properly working drivers, or what?

if i do get Vista, it'll be when i get another computer.

as for getting it to upgrade the current computer....just like the PS3, WAY TO EXPENSIVE.

plus, i dont think my card is good enough. And Apple said Vista is having issues with iTunes...i need that to put music/videos onto the iPod.

I like using MP3 players that don't require proprietary software to transfer files :)

I work for Vista too! Oddly, I don't have it, and have never used it. I guess I'm not working hard enough. :(

No wonder Vista quit paying me.

Have you guys seen this "transform XP to look like Vista" on www.download.com home page.....I did it, its kinda cool. Gives you the "sorta" vista aero gui look, blacks out your taskbar too and gives you a couple gadgets, and gives you the cool "start button orb" too you should check it out if youre cheap like me and generally do not want to test Vista at such an early stage. I downloaded a Flip3d Program so now when I alt-tab, it does the tiling thing...SOO COOL!!11!1! Im gonna rock with this until service pack I for vista comes out lol!

Sure, from what we have seen from customer input there are some 3rd party software/hardware developers who simply refused to make to make the necessary changes to be compatable with vistas architecture. The largest call volume we have is regarding three key issues. 1) OneCare has a compatability issue one SOME machines due to a coding error onecares security policy will block all network connections until disabled or installed. 2) Driver issues a lot of companies dont have them out, or they arent easy to find, or they are not coded properly and thus dont work. 3) Upgrade from previous OS due to any number of 3rd party issues including adware/spyware infection this is where we see the most 'random' problems errors that are occuring because vista cant configure itself properly after converting Xp.

which version are you planning to get? I'm planning to get Vista Ultimate. I ran RC1 before and it was OK. Maybe I'll upgrade next month.
