Will lack of viewership on TV hurt TF Prime toy sales?

I don't see sells being hurt by the lack thereof for kids to watch. I don't have the Hub at my house, hell I barely have basic cable. But at work we have the Hub, granted it's a casino and kids aren't prone to gambling their life savings away lol. But the reasons I'm sure that sales won't be affected is not only do they somewhat resemble the movie modes, but also like others have stated, transformers is a household name now. Kids will get it because 1.) it looks bad ass, & 2.) they're familiar with the basis of the product. I'm sure Hasbro could come out with a comic story arc with no tie in to any continuity make a whole line of toys from it and they would sell. Another reason sales won't hurt is also because your local neighborhood scalper will clean out inventory and sell it back to you at double.

This is not accurate. This depends on where you live and who your network provider is. We've always had to pay extra to get Cartoon Network where I live for most providers and basic cable has never made it available to us. I missed most of the Unicron Trilogy because of this. We couldn't find a decent provider that would give us Cartoon Network until Animated first aired.

    Not everyone is ADD.

And I don't think being on the pay to watch channel is going to effect toy sales at all. I would of like 10 years ago before it became easier to watch your favorite TV shows online.

My own TV time has been reduced a great deal. I use to be able to tell you what time it was at any given moment simply by what I happen to be watching on TV at the time. As reality shows started to take over for a while there was never anything good on TV and I was reduced to watching only the Sunday night Fox when they show new episode of Simpsons and all that stuff. The reality show fad started to fad away but by this time everything has been easier to get on the internet or DVR it. I don't have to sit in front of the TV all the time to catch my favorite shows anymore, I just check the DVR once a week and anything the DVR fails to record or can't record I find online.

Kids today are growing up with this technology so they'll be more likely to know how to use and take advantage of the DVR than their parents who will be trying to figure out were you put the VHS tape to record on. And at the same time the kids will be saying "What's a VHS?"

So yeah it really doesn't matter if you even have TV anymore. To be honest I think they should just get rid of TV entirely and upload everything directly to the internet. I wasn't kidding when I said I only watch TV once a week. TV is kind of a waist of space, no one watches commercials anymore when you can fast forward past them so being on the internet also makes sure that people actually see the adds.

That doesn't mean they suck. Granted,I HATED that Arcee design and was happy to see it blown to bits, but that doesn't mean that the character didn't have potential and was ruined because they killed her off. Was Ironhide mistreated because he died? Jazz?

I think he meant Bay screwed up how they were portrayed. I don't really like the movie characterizations. I understand what they did to Jazz (modernizing the Slang), but to me, that isn't Jazz. Jazz was 80's Jive; from the Blues scene, which is still alive today. The movie incarnation used terminology from sources I ignore, like Rap.

    What about G1?

If its about Wheeljack, Prime's Wheeljack looks a lot like his G1 counterpart. Both of which don't look like Que. And again, in the film the character was called Que not Wheeljack. Either way, Prime doesn't benefit from Que's appearance in the film.

And I doubt the average viewer think that Que is supposedly Wheeljack.

Yeah I don't think Movie Wheeljack will help TFP Wheeljack in any way, even if they had similar roles/personality there's still the fact that they look NOTHING like each other and aren't even connected by an alt mode or an idea or an On-Screen name.

Yeah, movie que and Prime wheeljack are different beasts. Yes, in the movies he was credited as both, but very very few people actually stay through the credits let alone read them. The only way they're similar at all really as that as toys they're both called Wheeljack. Heck, by the time Prime hits, both Generations Wheeljack and DOTM Wheeljack will be out and parents who recognize the name may not think their kid needs another Wheeljack and it may hurt Prime Wheeljack's sales. I remember when I was little and a new line hit I had to convince my mom that it was a DIFFERENT Optimus from a DIFFERENT Universe (or just part of another gimmick from the same line), and that I didn't have this one. It didn't do much good. In light of that, I'd like to say for internet shopping!

I'm going to be really simplistic here:

"Will the fact that a majority of kids can't watch TF Prime hurt toy sales?"

Yes. The lack of the show, regardless of kids familiarity with TRANSFORMERS, movie characters, etc., will hurt sales.

I think having this question posed and us posting begs the question, "Just how much will sales be affected?" I think that's the tougher question to answer.

Man, you people don't even troll with that in proper context anymore. You just blurt it out randomly and feel proud of yourself.

    Sad.

    I think it'll affect sales.

    My, quite simplified, viewpoint.

The show's, as they have always been, are half hour toy adverts. A major part of marketing is getting your adverts seen to generate desire for product. Therefore, limiting your advertising's audience seems to play against the very idea of selling things.

No clue what'll happen over here in the UK as I still don't know how to get the show except for the intertubes.

He actually changed what he said to complaining "This isn't Geewun" after I pointed out (in the post below) that what he originally said had nothing to do w/ what he replied to (my point being the movies didn't properly characterize the characters, & thus how Bay ruined & destoyed them was not litteral, as he took it).

My post, linked to, has his original post. :ev:
