I remember reading somewhere that the manga was actually getting a serial run in a monthly manga magazine over sea. And most of the time with manga once they get so many chapters they release a graphic novel of them.

Does anyone know if Hasbro has any plans to having this translated and publish here in the states by IDW? Since IDW had the Beast War's first book re-printed in manga size I'm sure they would stay in with IDW instead of outsourcing it to like say Tokyopop or Viz. I know I can get scanalated pic online but I like to have actual books in hand when reading.

I would like to have a chance to read it even thou It may or may not be bombarded with clique and typical manga style gags and jokes. Not that I have a problem with manga but I burned myself out with reading nothing but manga for the last ten years of my life. And I have slowly but surely stopped reading them so frequently. Because when you have Transformers as a hobby you can't afford another one.

Well, I got Henkei Meg & Henkei Astrotrain, and I don't even bother to read 'em. Just don't like manga & anime at all.

I was under th e assumption that the serial run was just a reprinting of the pack-in comics.
Which we have translated here at TFW.

Not sure if I'd pay the $10 to buy a graphic novel of it.

    They really shouldnt.

Transformers Manga has never been any good. the Armada and Energon series pack-in comics were better written. the art is good, but... that's it.

basically, the TF mangas follow this pattern:

decepticon shows up at random location, attacks
    autobots show up.
battle lasts 1, maybe 2 pages.
    decepticon retreats
autobots or a friend of the autobots says something about how they'll never lose on the final page.

that is pretty much every TF manga ever. they arent actual stories like traditional comics and mangas.

Sounds a lot like many kids anime shows too. Not just TF or even super robots.

It would be cool if someone like IDW offered a couple of big volumes collecting all the different manga, as a collector oriented thing.

I'd be interested in those. The stories are short but the art's great. I think it's the same artist who did the package art for Prowl and Sunstreaker.

I don't think that it's the whole "meat" aspect of it, but just the nostalgia of having comic pack in's with toys again.

That is very sad to hear.:(  I would have except a little something more and not so hokey.

Yeah I thought the same with Armada it was just a Transformers version of Pokemon to me: Gotta Enslave'em all!!!

. Who know maybe the artist, writer, and magazine might take it further over seas than just reprints of the instructions manga.

The only REALLY good Transformers manga I know is Linkage.

And that's because, well, Ichikawa. He actually manages to cram character development into a story consisting of thirteen three-or-four-page sequentials.

Which is because he actually follows an ongoing plot, instead of just having each installment a short non-story with no real continuity whatsoever.

The BW2 and BW Neo mangas are actually way better than the cartoon.

The Henkei mangas were packed with toys. BĂȘte Noire/Betty Nor actually posted translations.

Needless to say, they suck. Decent art but the story is even worse than the stories we got in Armada/Energon pack-in comics. Valkysas summarized it pretty well.

One issue had the Decepticons finding Skyfire frozen in the ice, Starscream gives him a "control helmet" (ie the removable helmet the toy comes with) and assaulting a city with him. Then Skyfire realizes his wrongdoings, removes the helmet and rebels against Starscream & co and the Decepticons are chased away.
All within... what, four or five pages?
    It was just awful.

An IDW translation/ repaint might be interesting...but I doubt I'd pay more than $4 for such a thing, unless it was more than 100 pages.

As someone who has been translating Transformers manga for years, yes, they all suck (except Victory, which is so weird it's awesome).

All Transformers manga follow the same ultra-simplistic and intellectually-insulting formula and, unless they're being really crazy and out there, are no fun to read. And most of you get to read them for free. Try to imagine paying money to read that crap.

The manga simply wouldn't turn a profit here in the West, since we're used to more "sophisticated" Transformers fiction.

Alright, alright. Linkage IS an exception. Its also one of the only endurable pieces of Armada/Micron Legend fiction, making it an even greater anomoly.

    Haha.
    How true.

I'm still impressed this is the only fiction (that I know of) that Takara allowed Ichikawa to write. Did Takara say "No, it's too good and too intelligently written. IT NEEDS MORE CLICHES AND LESS PLOT!!!!"?
    Seriously, I'm baffled.
