I'm still waiting to get mine from Hong Kong (unmodified). Torn between leaving him in the box, or just taking him out and enjoying transforming him and putting him on display.

I wonder if this megatron will be valuable in a few years since suppliers in the US will not carry him unmodified. I saw the easily removable yellow tip, but I think most suppliers will permanently affix a legally compliant tip (it doesn't look too bad with this tip anyway) http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TAK10668&mode=retail&picture=out

It kind of depends on what the suppliers do. If they permanently afix it than of course, the unmodified version will be worth more.

    What did the staff do?

N... nevermind, to answer your question, I'd take him out of the box and display. That's what I'm doing.

Personaly, I've never been big on the whole "leave it MISB then sell it for lots 'o' $$$", especialy if it's a toy you really like.

Well, MP-05 will probably go up in value no matter what, but HOW much is debatable...

Because he's so popular lots of people have him, so supply will always be around... but places are already sold out... who knows.

But I don't think he'll skyrocket like MP-02, Magnus went up silly.

The basis of "The Great MISB Debate" rears its ugly head again.

I think MP- Megatron will go up in price...they all do..eventually.
But I think toys should be opened.
Financial gain should be from our paycheck..and stable investments.

They will be much more than you will ever get from appreciating toys.
The money recieved from a paycheck in a week would be much more that the toy may EVER appreciate.

If you want to invest...buy some property....when we can afford it.
Relatively speaking toys are not a good investment...in my opinion.
It just robs you from years (or any) fun with the toy...which is the reason you bought it right?

Some buy 2...open one, leave other sealed.

    It is up to you.
    The choice is always yours.

consider how popular the masterpiece line is, and then consider how much G1 Megatrons go for on ebay (in both vintage and re-issue form), and finally consider the modifying controversy that makes unmodded ones more desirable. Obviously, he's going to accumulate value. But I agree that if you want to buy a toy, buy it to enjoy it. If you want money, play the stock market or something. You only live once

The value will go up whether it's sealed or not. You could do what I plan to do, open the box, take the toy out, replace toy with an equal weight of Legos or somesuch, carefully reseal it, and sell it to a MISB collector!

(Not really going to do that, but if I did, they'd never know.)

I just ordered an MP-04 with a Titanium 6' Ultra Magnus from BBTS. I think it was their last Ultra Magnus. But as far as the MP-04, they told me they had quite a few on hand.

I got really lucky, though. I only started buying Transformers last week and saw that, as opposed to previous releases, he actually came with a trailer now.

One of the coolest things about the internet is being able to see all these different sellers competing for your money. Back in the day you had to go to a Comic Con or the local Hobby shop to buy rare Transformers toys. And the fat greasy-faced bald-headed ponytail-wearing owner wouldnt sell you anything under $40 bucks.
Not anymore. I got all my favorites, brand new, for under $450 (including MP-04, MP-05, and the TRU Soundwave).

Don't buy transformers to make a profit. There are far better and easier ways to make money.

I love my MP Magnus :D  . One of the biggest reasons he went up so high was because there wasn't that much demand for him at first, but by the time people strted wanting him, he was already sold out at most places.

Yeah, I'm pretty much 99.9% sure I will open it. I was really just interested in insight on how collectible toys increase in value and what potential the MP-05 has, esepcially compared to other MP tformers. One factor that will probably not help the value is that pretty much everyone who has one will keep the box and accessories in good condition and be very gentle with it. Kids aren't going to be buying these, abusing them and having moms who will throw them in the trash.

    lol

whats revence and why are you a master of it?

everyone, he may have been asking for purposes of buying down the line, not necessarily looking for profit.

but i dont see any harm worryin about the value of 100 dollar and up transformers, its nice to know that if i ever fall on hard times, ive got 500 dollars waiting for me if i sell my g1's and fort max. (those would have to be a hell of a hard times) but theres probably only a few of these "gems" in the lineup that will ever hold their value.

but i figure a transformer is never gonna be cheaper than when its at retail, and if it does get cheaper then it must have sucked and i deserve to lose money. i dont plan on making money on any of my transformers, but the more i save buying them, the more i have to spend buying more

It's really up to TakaraTomy. If they keep producing MP-05 or do another run a few years from now, the value will hover 'around' retail. If it's production is a one time thing, the skies the limit on this one.
