I'm torn as to whether it was better to just go with the friends codes a la DS instead. Gamespy is pretty horrible, perhaps the Nintendo touch will make it... less horrible.

Certainly not the online solution I would have hoped for from the big N.

It's really a lesser of two evils I guess. The friends codes are just atrocious, but Gamespy is (at best) a mediocre matchmaking service. Online play has never been important to me, and this wouldn't push me to try it out on the Wii.

Gamespy was decent on PC back before better software like Xfire came about. On consoles it was just a server browser with no friends list at all.

I used to use gamespy all the time for Counter Strike. Never had a problem with it then, doubt i'll have a problem with it now.

Those are the features everyone was asking for, aren't they?

Those are all meaningless buzz words. Metroid Prime Hunters has all that stuff already. I'll stop worrying when I see the final product. Keeping my fingers crossed that it does not suck.

Because the DS has always used Gamespy for their online play as well.

Disappointing, to be sure, but it's not going to turn me away from the system.

    Nintendo in backwards thinking shocker!

Funny thing is, Gamespy have said it could do a unified friends list but Nintendo didn't want it. For some strange backwards reason.
Maybe they just want to drive people away from online capabilities on there console.

Boardwise... you've just unleashed the hounds of Nintendo hell. Silly rabbit.

Isn't Nintendo's online stance that it just isn't that important? Well there are 6 million XBox Live susbscribers who would beg to differ.

Anyway, still not into online gaming. But yeah, awesome that Nintendo finally has a plan, I suppose.

Once there's some online titles on the Wii worth caring about, I'll worry about it.

I'm too hooked on XBL now.

Well, now that thats confirmed, I'm pissed off. There is no fucking reason that I should have to use a different code in each game. Also, is the Friend Code Per Game thing even possible on a game media like DVDs? I understand it would be easy to manufacture a unique number into cartages, but Im not sure about DVDs.

The codes will probably be randomly generated, or assigned to you the first time you go online with the game.

the codes are generated when you first go online with the game, just like on the DS.
