After so much trial-and-error, I have my Wii online. The Wi-fi USB adaptor I bought didn't seem compatible with my PC for some unknown reason(it's up for sale in my sales thread for much less than I paid should anyone want it). Found a LAN adaptor used at Gamestop for $20, just ended up using that.

I'll wanna sink at least 1 Wii points card for VC games. I own a Gamecube controller. Should I sink the 420 for a classic controller or just use the Gamecube pad?

I have a classic controller and I really like it. It works quite well, especially for the SNES games since the layout of the buttons is basically the same. Go for it.

I don't think it's worth it to buy a Classic Controller if you're only going to buy 1 Wii points card for VC. That's at most 4 games, and that's only if you go for All NES. Anything else and you'll probably only end up with 2. The Gamecube controller is sufficient if you're just going to dip your toes in with a couple of games.

If, on the other hand, you get hooked and start downloading a lot of stuff, I would recommend springing for the Classic Controller. Controllers are personal preference, but I personally don't like the GC controller much, and the Classic Controller layout is more similar to most of the consoles represented on VC, so it just feels better.

The gamecube d-pad is an abomination. Thou shalt not suffer it to live.

the gamecube controller really only works well with n64 games because they're analog heavy. for nes and tg16 i use a remote sideways and for genesis and snes the classic controller is best. i tend to use it for n64 too since i don't have a wavebird and i'm too lazy to go plug a cube controller in, but they do feel better.

I've found the Gamecube controller (specifically the Wavebird) works great for N64 games. But, if you're focus is mainly the 8 to 16 bit games, get the classic controller.

I love the Classic controller, one of the best game-pads Nintendo has ever made IMO. The only thing I don't like is the Z-trigger placement.

Should I also blow the $6 on one of those 3rd party wing grips for the thing?

Why would you ever buy those? They make those things for everything, they all look universally terrible, and they add nothing to the experience. Controllers are actually designed to fit in your hands straight out of the box.

HAY GUYS MY WIIMOTE/CLASSIC CONTROLLER/GBA/CELLPHONE LOOKS LIKE A PS2 CONTROLLER NOW

Question I don't have a Wii but do plan on getting one. Does the classic controller have to be hooked to the system (wired controller) to work? The pictures I have seen have a wire coming out of the top of the controller.

The classic controller only hooks up to the wii remote just like the nunchuck, it can't be connected to the system

Does the remote get in the way when you are using the Classic controller.

hm.. a little bit I guess, because the cord isn't all that long, you have to set the remote somewhere close by or inbetween your legs

it's not a huge problem or anything, but its not as nice as it would have been, had the classic controller been wireless.

yeah i thought it was a pretty strange move. i'd have preferred if it just wired into a usb or cube slot instead of connecting to the wiimote.

it's not all that bad, i just sit it next to me on the couch and i hardly notice it being there. as for the batteries it uses, rechargeables are a must.

or pick up one of those rechargeable battery docks for the remotes. I have two Nyko charge stations and they are amazing.
