i've been looking into getting a laptop to do my classwork on, so i don't hog the PC. i've also been looking into seting up a wireless internet connection so i can use the net on my laptop. my question is, i have the gameboy Wi-Fi usb, can that be used by anything other then nintendo products? or could the laptop use it to connect to the net?

I'm pretty sure it's Nintendo product exclusive. You'll have to get a router.

Search to see if there's another wireless network in your area and mooch off of that. I'm not responsible if they sue you, though

There's always a good chance if you're in a neighborhood that you'll get a free ride on someone else's network. I've got mine, and 2 unsecured to connect to.

    You won't pay $100.

You'll pay 59.99 for a Linksys Wireless G router, and that works just dandy.

It's reliable, constant, and you're not participating in broadband theft. Win-win.

We're getting municipal wi-fi here in Minneapolis. My neighborhood should be set up within the month. I'll quit mooching off my neighbor then. If anything, It'll be more reliable.

I feel like Michael Corleone, pledging to go completely legitimate.

To add on to what Jux said, depending on the retailer, there's often a rebate/discount with them. I think we ended up getting ours for $40.

I've been thinking about getting that, how is the price and speed? I've got Qwest DSL right now, and we are thinking of loosing the land line entirely.

    http://www.usiwireless.com/service/pricing.htm

I'm not sure exactly what that means, or how it compares to Qwest DSL.

Pricing looks good, better speed than my DSL too. I think we get a max of 1.5 Mbps for way more than what these guys want for 1 Mbps.

I just wonder if my laptop wireless card can access the wireless router they provide, or if we would have to get a new card for the laptop too. That would suck, the FAQs don't give me a solid answer.

My laptop has the internal adapter, so I believe I just need to subscribe to the service.
