Hi does anyone know why these characters were chosen to be killed off in beast wars, was it for toy purposes or were the story writers just told they had to kill off 2 characters

    thanks

I believe it stems from the fact that Beast Wars was a CGI Cartoon and thus had limited budget; with the cost of producing new models for all three of the Transmetals bodies alternate modes, as well as introducing Silverbolt and Quickstrike the Fuzors, Mainframe told the writers that they couldn't use everybody from season one anymore because they just couldn't afford it, so they picked the characters who would be the least likely to be missed/do something impressive during Season Two/Three and bumped them off.

Of course I could be wrong.

It was always too bad that Terrorsaur wasn't kept alive and converted into his Transmetal counterpart.

I guess they couldn't afford to do that; including changing Rhinox and Waspinator into Transmetal, 'cause the toys exist...

But then again, why did they waste their time (and money?) developing CGI models of Transmutate, Ravage, and Tigerhawk; all of whom only had one or two episodes to show for it... not much bang for the buck?

I can see why they chose those two to dispatch as they were building up inferno as the loyal number 2 in stead of scopornok and were building tarantulas up as more of a traitor than terrorsaur.

Personally though terrorsaur was my favourite character so i was very sorry to see him go

If I recall correctly Hasbro originally wanted Waspinator to be one of the two that got bumped off. Mainframe didn't want to do to his popularity, so Terrorsaur bit the big one instead.

I may be remembering incorrectly here though

Transmutate was a comparitively simple design compared to the main cast, while Ravage was a modification of the Transmetal Cheetor model.

As I recall, Hasbro weren't sure if they were going to release Tigerhawk or not at the time. But either way, the CG model for the character would have been made months in advance.

I'd suggest visiting Ben Yee's site to make sure, though www.bwtf.com

I'd say the cost of the modeling would be a huge factor, but I'm sure another big reason is the same one they killed off all the G1 guys in the movie: new toys to fill the shelves. My roommate was watching some of the BW episodes with me earlier in the year, it was the beginning of Season 2 when a lot of the characters got Transmetal bodies....he started laughing and asked, "New bodies? That was random...what, did they have new toys to sell or something?" heh heh.

They needed to make room for Quickstrike. Who, by the way, was the only reason to ever watch that show to begin with. He was awesome in every way and the furthest from annoying you could get!

Cost restrictions, plus they had to give room to the new guys.

Thanks for your help guys i do wonder though who had the last decision in who got dropped.

i guess in hindsight it had to be those 2, it had to be 2 of the original as they couldn't kill someone off just after they came into the show and megatron had to stay alive obviousely and tarantulas had soem good stories, I guess with inferno being the new megatron suck up scorponok was out and they just had to pick between waspinater and terrorsaur.

    - No "Transmetal" Scorponok
    - Originally Waspinator scheduled to axe, Mainframe fought it, decided to off the Starscream-wannabe Terrorsaur.
    - Characters killed for the simple reason of "New toys trump old toys" ... and with the inclusion of Fuzors and Transmetals, it was just going to cost too much to have the entire cast run around.
    - Tigerhawk was literally forced down Mainframe's throat by Hasbro. They didn't want to do it, Hasbro said he's our big release with TM2 Megatron, do it with a big fight between them, bam.

    And there you have it.

Too bad that 'big fight' was the biggest waste of time, space, money and character in Transformers history

Ultra Magnus would like a word with you.

Although I agree, Tigerhawk sucked compared with Rampage and Depth Charge.

I don't think Tigerhawk was a waste. If he had gotten more time, and shown the true extent of his powers and gotten some more characterization, he could have been bad ass.

Yeah, but Terrorsaur was really asking for it from the start, if the lava didn't do it, Megatron would have eventually.
What does surprise me, As far as I've seen (I havent seen the episode, but lots of clips from it), Only the Characters that will go Transmetal glow, but as Terrorsaur and Skorponok fall into the lava, they are both glowing, perhaps there was a Transmetal Skorponok designed, but it didnt make the final line up.

For the record though, I would have loved the entire cast to go Transmetal
    Like:-
    Dinobot (That would have rocked)
Rhinox (Even though his Transmetal form sucked)
Airrazor (before they killed her off)
Tigatron (just a colour swap of cheetor)
Inferno (obviously Transmetal Scavenger was meant to be Inferno)
Waspinator (He really needs the extra armour)
    etc.

It would also have been nice if, for Season 2 + 3, they used the whole 'Triple-Changer' thing in combat aswell, not just for Transport. (I know about The Primal + Megs fight where they use their air modes, and the Rattrap + Megs fight using Vehicle Modes.
