The official letter from LEGO about the issue

To put it simply, new fans would have been confused with the story if they jumped in into the middle of an ongoing plot and to get the full idea of what's really going on, they'd more than likely have to start all the way back at the beginning seeing as how big an extensive it is, especially the individual backstories for a lot of the characters.

And really, 10 years is a damn long time for a children's toy franchise to survive for that long. Plus with where the story was going, it was only a matter of time before it would have eventually ended.

I'd hardly call that the same thing. Star Wars is tie in, Bionicle was an ongoing original story.

Lego Star Wars is merely a license of an existing property that's backed by fucking Geoge Lucas. Bionicle was an original property made up by Lego themselves.

focusing on attracting new fans any series always takes priority at some point some franchises, sometimes to detrement of the fans, alot of games series make their latest instalments easier for new fans to get into while at the same time watering down the experience for the older fans, it happend with the bara magna story arc, which was a small reboot to attract newer fans, although i suppose lego felt it didnt work and decided to start a new franchise with constructable figures, I too hope Bionicle makes its comeback someday, mabey when Hero Factory is finished or maby a decade from now, in the end the decision is lego's if they want reboot/re-continue the series, who knows maby it maigh it be set centuries in the future where most of the events have become a myth...

What's the difference between Bionicle and Hero Factory? Their make up as toys is practically the same, just a different story line is all.

hero factory are not as poseable and are made for younger fans the reason so many people are annoyed was because bionicle kinda went down hill after mistika but glatorian legends were getting better mostly becuase we finally got mata nui and the mask of life.

I definitely liked the original Bionicle stories (Toa Mata, Bohrok) better than Hero Factory's, but Hero Factory figures are FAR more posable than most Bionicle toys were, in my opinion.

I had no idea what was going on with Bionicle storywise by the time it ended. I only miss it in terms of the early stuff.

Plus Bionicle had some badass Movies (Web of Shadows being my favorite), while HF has kiddy 3-4 parters.

I do want to see Bionicle return. There's a crapload of other characters that could use figures...

How can you compare a multi-platform franchise like Star Wars to Bionicle?

And yes, 10 years is a very long time for a toyline on a single platform.

Bionicle was great, it was the only real "line" of LEGO that I got into besides just the traditional building sets (ie: no Star Wars, Alpha Team, etc.). My favorite years had to be the 2001-2004 and the Glatorian. I collected every set up to 2005 (Except for the darn Bahrag Queens, I could never find those), as well as the cast of the movie with Michael Dorn, I was sad to see it canceled. It opened up more funds for Transformers, though :lol

    Not really. Anymore at least.

Oh yeah, just the entire story, setting, tone, characters and concepts.

Hero Factory has NO story, at least in depth. Bionicle was deep to a degree. God I miss this line.

    Agreed on all counts.

They're not. The rest of the Breakout/4.0 figures are due this fall, and signs are pointing to another little "mini-movie" like they've done before. With the success of HF, they're not going back to Bionicle any time soon.

I do miss bionicle, And I got a about 94% of the figures from the whole series, but the story line was hard for me to follow, but mostly b/c I never read any of the books or kept up with the stuff online for it. Hero Factory has been an easier story for me to follow. And the hero factory has awesome sets. I hate to admit it but I just might like Hero Factory more...:confused2  Although I wish Hero Factory had MORE vehicles AND big creature like the rahi.

But all and all as long as we get these style of toys from lego I'm happy, It's a good little break from Transformers.
