Because the first time the class was called Voyager was in Cybertron. The first wave of Cybertron voyagers included Vector Prime, who is, in fact, a traveller. Thus, the Voyager class was born.
Because it sounds cool..and it's better than even MORE generic terms such as 'mega', 'super' or 'o hai'. There really isn't much more to it. I like the sound of it, but I'm not a native English speaker, so I understand how someone who instantly remembers the meaning upon reading/hearing it may think it's a bit dumb.
If you live long enough to become 300 years old, expect these new classes in the future (because of the widespread influence of the internet and language degeneration): o hai roflcopter isploshunss shoopdawhoop ...quick, freeze me in!
Why pick on voyager? The words "basic" and "deluxe" don't really apply to size. It's just about retailers wanting standard packaging, and consumers wanting standard pricing. I mean, they could have choosen "underpants" "spaghetti" and "orange" as long as they kept the size and price consistent. Besides, have checked out the "worst TF names" thread? Hasbro isn't exactly known for their brilliant name choosing ability.
I kinda' like the name voyager, it sounds cool, and that's what sells toys, coolness not accuracy. haha
At the risk of stating the obvious, most toy buyers don't really care what the size class is called, and the majority of those who would are too darn old for toys anyway. Unfortunately, in these PC times, some of those names are likely to offend the short, the overweight, those with mental problems, and PETA as well.
And they all start with a M, that's gonna do great with retailers AND parents! "Errr, our kid wanted the yellow car robot..he mentioned the size..it was err..mega? moomoo? many?" Not gonna work. The good thing about the names right now is that they are all very specific names that differ greatly from all the other classes.
totally disagree. i thought the old Basic | Deluxe | Mega | Ultra | Super classifications made a hell of a lot more sense then "voyager" and "Leader", although anythings better than the ridiculous Armada ones ~ are you a minicon or a maxcon??? Voyager just makes no sense and doesn't MEAN anything. i don't like the Leader monkier cuz it sort of implies you'll only see Prime and Megs in that class...
I still think of Voyager Class as Mega now. Doesn't bother me if the official name is something else, all that matters to me is what is in the box.
Would you have preferred Small, Medium, Large, and Magnum? Or Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Metroplex, and Unicron? Or Recruit, Elite, Magnus, and God?
