Why does it seem like a lot of people here don’t have their own opinion about things but rather go along with the majority of the board. It’s more like the negative comes first because that’s what is expected or whets “cool”. Examples are….MP Megatron was announced, the first thing we here is” It better not be this”, “It better not be that” “if it’s not this is crap”. We then get prototype pics and we get” It’s too big”, “we better get the attachments”, it never stops. Another case is the KISS line, I guess the cool thing to say about this line is its “kid porn”, another example is TF the movie, its “cool” to bash it but yet, nobody has even seen it. Its just funny to see how nobody has their own opinion. The really funny part is how things are so heavially bashed before it comes out but once released, everybody jumps on it with their HAUL topics proudly displaying what was supposed to be so bad but to save face, they still throw in a few bashes. My point it, why is it so important to fit in in a negative way, why don’t a lot of you have your own opinion? Why cant you enjoy collecting instead of bashing the products?

Agreed. Sadly, the Transformers fandom has a lot of people who complain a lot, if its not about one thing, its about something else, there will always be someone complaining about SOMETHING. I usually find myself in the minority, I don't judge toys from what pictures I've seen online, and I don't voice a "loud" negative opinion on it, usually I'll just say I'm looking forward to it, or say nothing at all. Since I reserve my judgement, I usually find that I enjoy most things I buy too. IMO bashing isn't cool, heck I've yet to say much negative about KP or the movie. But then again I'm a lot younger than 95% of the people on these boards, I usually welcome new stuff with open arms, but that's just me.

I've been here since G1, and I welcome all new things TF, be it beasts, the movie and it's toys, MP figures, all of it. Well, except kiss players. That whole concept is just wrong.

I was upset when they screwed up MP Starscream (colors and kibble), but so were most people. I think MP Megs will be one of the coolest TFs ever, and I'm going to see the movie on opening night.

The trend you've noticed is a regular part of not only these, but nearly all of the Transformers boards out there. In addition, other fandoms have acted this way for years before this. In my opinion, this is just a microcosmic example of a general social principle - people are afraid of change. The same ebb and flow of negativity happens in a lot of other social circles as well - people have, for years, badmouthed politicians repeatedly, only to find that, when that politician becomes their representative, he actually does a hell of a great job. They might still smear him a bit just to feel morally superior, but the truth remains - their opinion has changed because they stopped judging and started considering.

Additionally, negativity of this sort has a place. It's quasi-healthy. Ranting about a Transformers subject (whether it's a full-on rant about a character, a line or the direction the film is going) is a nice way for folks to blow off steam and destress. Not all of this is solely generated by someone happily walking up to their monitor, looking at the Kiss-Play figures (for example) and then suddenly deciding that it's worth it to just tirade their butts off about it.

    You want negativity, go to a Star Wars board and say these exact words;

    'I like The Phantom Menace.'

I've not tried it myself but I've heard that people reach out from your monitor and strangle you. True Story.

    FANBOY EXPLANATION:
Well, if they'd stop making everything suck, I wouldn't have to complain about it all!
    /FANBOY EXPLANATION

In reality, people just want to bitch and moan about something. There's some wild theories out there about how we evolved to deal with constant pain and strife and the struggle to survive and all this other crap and now that we're in a relatively safe little society our brains are scrambling for things to fight against. We spent countless generations fighting nature and everything else just to survive, and now the best we can come up with is, "OH FUCK! THEY MADE PRIME'S LEGS BLACK?!"

Every fandom is like this and in some cases there are a few who stand out more so then other and really let you know what it is they truely want. Not everyone will be happy with things at frist cause like most of the time what their expecting to see/get comes out to be different in the end. There's no pleaseing everyone and not everyone will be pleased.

I mean, I have an opinion on things that i really like, dislike and are in the netural area about...I give my opinion and thats it and take other opinion as there opinions. I love MP Megs, little oversized and skinny legs, which makes sense anyway, He's a Beautiful Mold...Movie is going to be awesome, although i'm not a hugh fan on the designs, it's still cool. The only real dislike I have, well beside a figure here and there that really sucks... is the White RP Ultra Magnus and no armour. These are my opinions and not me just giving into the majority.

Also when some people get into discussion about things, you'll always see people understanding that leaning towards other opinions...just how things go.

My main complaint is poor quality control. I'm really open to designs and such, I just feel like I'm being taken advantage of when I receive a shoddy product. Between my MP-04 for 200.00 and Titaniums for 15.00 I notice the same poor quality, especially with the paint. If the toys looked more like their prototypes I'd be much happier with them. This goes for all toy lines, not just TFs.

MP Megatron will be one of the greatest figures ever

Kiss Players is a hilarious concept

The Bay movie will most likely be something I dont like based on all the elements revealed thus far

    Those are my honest opinions.

I agree with you that a good portion of the fandom is too negative. The fact that people dislike MP Megs or the Alternators never ceases to amaze me. But to say that no one has an original opinion is just as amazing.

I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is that message boards aren't frequented by people with a passing interest in something. we're all here because we LOVE transformers. because of that, we want our toys, media, etc. related to the franchise to be the best it can be, and are vocally critical when it's not. you want to see some positivity? go to the feedback thread and look up what people are saying about the classics lines, or feedback on alternators. those are pretty much loved across the board.

I rarely complain, I'm glad they still bother producing transforming figures after all these years. Anything new is good for me.

Star Wars Transformers are okay but People calm down I would love to get Emperoer Pamplatine....Eventualy

Classics Minicons Yes deal with it still i think they could of made new figures but what's down is down Deal with it

So, you're complaining about people complaining?

Anyway, while it seems that way, as mentioned, it is a large part that the most vocal people are the ones upset by something. People who are all right, or cool with it aren't nearly as vocal or as numerous as the people who hate something.

Keep in mind, when 20th Op came out, that was filled with lots of complaints too, but now has become very highly regarded by most fans. It's the nature of the beast, it's why we're fanatics, shortened down to fans.
Just about everything has had complaints, regardless of how well or poorly it turned out.

Personally, I think the movie isn't going to be very good. I've expressed those concerns when the script came out and when Megatron was revealed, but that's been it. After that point, I don't care to contribute anymore. It ceases being my vocalization of my disdain for something, and starts becoming a quest to inform everyone on how I feel about something, which is pointless. (But, you'll find some people do that as well, also increasing the "negativity" of posts.) Similarly, I have, enjoy having, and looked forward to getting Cybertron Galaxy Force Vector Prime. I commented that I liked the scheme, was disapointed that he wouldn't be gold like in the preproduction pics, but that was it.

That cannot be even considered an opinion since you haven't seen the movie. You know just about nothing about that movie.

I usually just state how I feel and move on, and if I don't like something, I don't buy it.

    PS: My Collection consists of;

20th Prime With Repro Long tacks
    All Currently Released Alternators
Classics Starscream, Grimlock, Hotrod and Bumblebee
Cybertron Excillion, Smokescreen, Blurr and Both Scrap Metals
    Armada "Bendy" Prime
    G1 Re-issue Bluestreak and Jazz
    G1 Optimus Prime

So yeah, I'm kind of picky.
