I have a question ,why Scourge manage to use the power of the matrix in season 3 The Burden Hardest to Bear while Ultra Magnus can't use the power of the matrix in the 1986 movies ,Scourge size even growth in size and strength while Ultra Magnus size don't not growth at all and powerless in the junkion scence .

Do the Matrix actually know that Scourge is not a evil Decepticon at all ,he force to be evil by Unicorn and his heart is good like his evil from outside ,good from inside and he actually a child just born in 2005 while Ultra Magnus actually have a hidden agenda in mind,he could lead Autobot to distruction if he manage to lead the Autobot ,his actually good from outside while evil from inside(this from chinese proverb)just like never judge the book from it cover ,what do you think?.

Though if you want to 'explain' it, then just assume that the Matrix, being an Autobot focus of 'good', its power can only be harnessed by the very strongest and bravest of beings (Ultra Magnus doubted his worthiness, thus couldn't use it). Scourge on the other hand was arrogant and greedy, meaning he could tap into its power but as it was all meant for himself it began to destroy him.

 

Ultra Magnus didn't find the On/Off button.

 

Scourge didn't really use the power of the Matrix, the Matrix gave him cancer.

 

Magnus lacks "the touch"

 

the way i rationalized it was that the matrix powered up scourge b/c it (and the wisdom of the ages inside) wanted hot rod to see the madness that ensues when he shirks his responsibility. it didn't power up magnus b/c he wasn't he chosen one.

 

I've seen this kind of idea before, but it doesnt explain the entire event.

 

I like this idea.

 

My assumption has always been that the Matrix was "locked" until Hot Rod opened it. After that anyone could access its power and that's how both Scourge and Optimus were able to use it without being "the chosen one."

 

I like this idea.Altho it gives the Matrix a level of persona that I'm not sure was hinted at in the series.

But this part doesnt really fit with the stories told trew out the series.

One problem with that theory.

If anyone could use it after HotRod opened it, why couldnt Galvatron use it in "Burden hardest to bear"??

In my opinion theres really only one logical "in story" answer.The idea of a "chosen one" was a myth that grew in TF society.

A Genetic affinity for the Matrix in a small set of the TF population explains everything we saw.

Continuity errors.

 

Well Scourge certainly appreciated the matrix more than galvatron or the other decepticons did, he knew it was more than merely a power source. Maybe the matrix recognised Scourge as it's best chance to get back to Earth.

 

How does that apply to the situation??

 

It's all about the fingers, and whether or not they fit into the holes on the matrix handles.

Hot Rod had young, thin fingers, Scourge had pointy nails that could get in there at least a little. Poor Ultra Magnus and his thick stubby ham-hocks didn't stand a chance.  

Now if UM stepped out of the armor and went to "white Optimus Prime" mode, he might have been able to do something with the Matrix. After all Optimus could open it, and the physical designs are supposedly the same.

 

The way I see it is Scourge is a smackhead junkie, and the Matrix was his fix...  

 

Primus hates Ultra Magnus  

 

Its been shown in other continuities that the matrix chooses its bearers on some occassions, and sometimes the matrix is an asshole who lends it's powers to homicidal monsters instead of more righteous followers.
