This is a custom done by one of our radicons.

A thought occurred to me though. In the movie, Jet-Prime IS a parts-formation. Jetfire is spit up into his components, and they attach to optimus prime. So Why didn't Hasbro just do that instead. It would have made the combination a lot easier to do.

Possibly due to the fact that they're constrained to particular size classes, and expected to rotate new characters into those size classes fairly regularly during the early part of the movie's cinematic run?

Perhaps not, but it does seem like they decided first on a Leader class toy with electronics, then worked backwards to make it combine.

Time may also have been an issue ?

I think time definitely must have been an issue.

They couldn't really design Jetfire until Optimus was finished, and it definitely looks like more time went to Optimus. It's too bad Jetfire's toy couldn't be all it should have been.

If it were up to me (with no commercial or time-based considerations involved) I would've had a leader Jetfire that combines with the upcoming voyager Prime rather than the leader class Prime. That would be the ultimate.

As to why they couldn't have done it as a parts-former, well I'm not sure if I like parts-formers but it does make sense. They were doing Unite for the Universe JetPrime as a parts-former... but the parts didn't turn into either Jetfire or the Blackbird.

What's wrong with the Jetfire we got? Aside from being dead at this point.

I'd much rather if a classic-style Jetfire came into the movies, they name him Skyfire. (I know Hasbro doesn't have the rights, but slap an 'Autobot' in fornt and good as new)

In my opinion, we should just get a Voyager Jetfire that doesn't combine with any Optimuses. Jetfire's strong enough in character and design to make me want a normal transforming figure.

a jetfire that comes apart to combine would have the problem of parts getting lost. pretty sure that's why they didnt go that route.

I do wish we got a proper, non-combining jetfire. voyager class would have been nice.

"Shit"... not sure, but it's definitely a combination of lacking and frustrating at the same time.

Transforming/combining it once was enough to make me not want to bother again.

I'm not sure what the OP wants.

    1. A Jetfire with robot and vehicle modes that part-forms to armor?
    2. A Jetfire with one mode and part-forms to armor?
    3. A Jetfire that is only part-forming armor?
    4. And, going strictly by the thread title, a Jetfire with robot and vehicle modes with no combination ability?

The delayed Unite for the Universe Jetprime should take care of #3.

That only works if the name is considered "public domain" or something like that and is therefore impossible to copyright i.e. Jazz, Ratchet. In those cases, adding the faction to the front creates something that can be copywritten.

If someone else holds the copyright, it doesn't work. For example when Lanard held Shockwave, that meant that Hasbro couldn't use the name for one of their products no matter what they put in front of it - Decepticon Shockwave is still an infringement on the other company's property.

On topic, I also wonder why Jetfire was not a part former, though I think it may be as Valkysas and Bumblethumper suggested.
I hope to eventually pick up the Unite for the Universe Optimus for my Jetprime needs, and keep Jetfire as a separate toy. He's awesome enough in his own right, and manages in that respect to beat the curse that brought down several other "power up" combiners before him.

Huh, did not know that about Copyrights. But it makes sense.

It's not fantastic, but it's not shit.

I would have to say that it is not really fair to compare a custom Radicon creation to a mass market figure. For one the mass market figure must meet safety regulations. Also there is only so much budget to be able to make the figure for X price point, lets be honest the toy market in the majority of the world is not like that in Japan where high priced toys are marketed to adult collectors.

Beyond that I could not hope to count the number of times on various fan sites that fans have mentioned their distaste for parts formers.

I think that the upcoming Unite for the Universe would be perfect if it used the newer voyager class mold.

ldr jetfire has his issues, but i still like him. he looks great on my wall in alt mode.

though, considering the crap Megatrons in both voyager and ldr class, the starscreams (ldr does look good, though) and all, a voyager size, non combining jetfire would have been nice and i woulda grabbed it.

Personally I thing jetfire should have been able to go from robot to jet and back with no or very minimal part forming but part form to become armour, its basically how it worked in the film and would have ment the combined mode in toy for didn't turn Prime and jetfire into one big ugly brick.

It would've been cool if only certain parts of Jetfire came off of him to combine with Prime. Just like in the movie. Jetfires whole body didn't combine with Prime just certain parts.

The Leader Jetfre toy is frusturating though. I gotta agree.
