I have always wondered why have they not released a Bumblebee G1 Masterpiece figure.

I know he would be out of scale , but it would really cool if he was part of the MP line even if they have to release as a 2 pack. And I know they have Alternators versions but he is not G1`in aesthetic.

In a nutshell. VW began to refuse to license to harbo because they did not want their product associated with war. There was actually a really cool design of an Alternator/BT Bee based on the new Beettle that looked pretty sweet but no licensing so it never happened.

Well, there was a bit of an incident that happened in Germany a few decades ago that they (Germans) are still trying to move passed, and some companies have chosen to not have their products be associated with anything that could bring up those memories. I think it was a little thing called WWII... or something.

I guess they think if they ignore the fact they were a war time car associated with Hitler for long enough time, people will forget about it.

Kinda ridiculous they refuse to license themselves.

Well it's true. :)  And I'm completely on VW's side when it comes to their decision to keep their brand as far away as possible from war related stigmas. I think they have indeed taken it to a sort of crazy extreme, but I do get it.

Either way, this whole ongoing "Why doesn't VW...?" thing should be put in a master TF FAQ somewhere.

I'm of the opinion that any new G1-styled BB should have a "close enough without provoking a lawsuit" altmode. Hell, Classics Bee is a round little yellow car (albeit way more modern than I would want for an MP) and VW didn't put a stop to that. There's gotta be some kind of middle ground between that and an actual Beetle that HasTak can get away with.

With the Classics mold seemingly having been based on a Honda Civic hatchback, I think the notion of a yellow compact car (and/or somewhat sporty) as being enough to project G1 Bumblebee.

If they did, then it wouldn't be a Masterpiece.

They could try the PT Cruiser, it does has a VW style look without coming from them. So the G1 design might fit right with that if they would try it.
