I don't get into the movie toy line and that would have to do with so many TF's
having a lens as a face.
    So my question is:
Is there any reason why they have that camera lens face?

there aren't that many with lens faces. those that do are characters taken from the the movie video game, and are just drones. there's only three toys that have a lenshead.

Yep Swindle, Dreadwing and Camshaft :) ... but I don't think "lens faces" is bad. Shockwave is a "lens face" too.

The lens faces are evidence of Hasbro gettin lazy in their designs. I think its an insult to the fans to say "look a new figure for with an articulated lens face!! now that'll be 20$"

Why would a Drone need a face? Its not like they need to emote or anything.
Plus, I bet Megatron saves much more money using len's heads than faces.
    Thats just him being thrifty.

I mean c'mon, everyone knows you get a great discount if you bulk buy on these things.

Lens faces are cool. (Except Swindle's) they have lens faces because they aren't sentient like other TFs in the game.

you forget Hasbro had absolutely nothing to do with those character's design, as they were made by the video-game's art staff.

Maybe they see better with larger optics. Easier to track and destroy their enemies. That's how birds work.

Really? I thought Hasbro were involved in the designs.

That's not really an issue as Hasbro couldve changed their faces if they wanted to. Remember how some of the old G1 characters had different faces in their toy forms from their cartoon faces?

Yeah, the game designs were done in collaboration with Hasbro. You can in fact see a short video explaining this somewhere on the web, starring Aaron Archer himself.

And yeah, the drones ar meant to be numerous, expendable faceless minions. Litterally faceless in this case.
