In the Terminator universe, what's the point of such a design?

Rigid adherence to human form is a poor design for a robot, but this is mandated by the necessity of the T-800 to fit into human society.

Without the ability to disseminate into human society, is there really a need for it to look like that?

The T-1000 is quite possibly my favorite fictional robot design, however.

ED-209 has rocket launchers, no contest I'd say.

209 is horribly stupid, though. Probably whoever managed to shoot first would win.

Well, first of all, the T-800 can navigate stairs, even with a damaged foot, so that's a distinct advantage. And I think it's a lot more resilient than ED-209. Faster, probably smarter, I think it's a no contest for the Terminator.

It all depends on whether or not it's a ... hehe... level playing field.

Stairs give the T-800 an advantage, definitely. The real winners? The people watching who don't get killed in the crossfire.

I'd say it's because Skynet doesn't have to retool another production line if it uses a design that's already battle-tested and can co-opt human rebel weapons (like jeeps and guns) pretty much at will. The old Mecha Design Argument through human interface.

Plus a robot that looks like a skeleton is an awesome psychological weapon against people who haven't seen it yet.

A shame it's so ridiculously over priced. Wait I know...pretend it's a BotCon exclusive and maybe that will justify the inane price tag?

And are you guys seriously debating this? That is frightening on so many levels. I'm now going to back away slowly w/o making any sudden movements. Wouldn't want to spook a member of the nerd heard and cause a stampede.

Are you talking about debating buying this because of its price, or the ED-209 vs T-800 debate?

Cuz if its the latter, well, if you want serious, well informed, in depth discussions over real world topics you've come to the wrong place...
