Why is the Hasbro Skids reissue more expensive than the Takara release?

Ignore the thread title, I wrote it backwards. The USA release is selling for more than the Takara release and I would like to know why. Is it because it is harder to find or does it have something that the Takara version lacks?

Content and construction-wise, they're identical. The only thing bumping up the Takara version price is the fact that it's an import, and possibly due to collector mentality.

Hmmm, not sure I follow. Seems like your thread title and your question are asking opposite things.

All the Takara reissues are typically more expensive than the Hasbro counterparts. Strangely though, the Hasbro reissues have been gaining ground lately.

AFAIK, the only difference between the toys is that TRU Skids has no spring in the launcher.

The Takara one has the firing action still in tact as well.

Actually, I apologize for my mistake in the thread title. The USA release is going for $59.99 and the Takara release is going for $49.99 at most places. I expect Takara releases to cost more because they are imports, but Skids defies that logic and I wanted to know why. Sorry for the confusion. I guess that the US release must have been more limited or something.

    Fixed.

As for your question I suspect the Takara Skids is a bit more bountiful then his Hasbro counterpart however there exactly the same to regardless.

50 for TFC Skids seems a little high, i think you could quite easily get one for say $40-45. 60 for the TRU version seems very stiff, but a search on eBay for both completed and current items didn't return that many listings for TRU Skids...

One seller wants 149 for TRU Skids, with the name Itemsforless, perhaps they're being ironic.

There's no need to rush into anything - TFC Skids certainly isn't scarce, and i think the TRU version is easily enough found too.

TFC Skids was released earlier on by Takara when the reissues were plentiful and successful. The Hasbro Commemorative Series Skids was released in Series 8, the second to last series, which was the last series to see a full release (series 9 doesn't really count as Astrotrain and Sideswipe were each exclusives). By this point the Hasbro reissue line was all but dead and I'm sure TRU didn't order nearly as many Series 8 toys as they did the earlier series. So the simple answer is supply and demand.

Soundwave.ca Thanks for fixing the thread title. And to everyone else, thanks for your responses. I will keep looking out for him untill I can get him for $40 to $45. He is not worth, even that much, to me, since I have Cross Cut, but I still want him. Thanks again everyone.

I'll agree with that. I got on at TRU for about half price, IIRC, as they were clearing them out of stores...and I don't remember ever seeing that many of them to begin with. I would recommend finding a decent complete G1 original for the kind of money that some places seem to want for the reissue. I picked one up at my local toy shop for $35 last year.
