I have nothing against Shockwave. I haven't seen too much of him to have an opinion. But, why is Shockwave a fan favorite? Why do you guys like him?

Honestly Shockwave's main claim to fame is beating Megatron which he didn't even do on his own. Shockwave never beat Megatron when he wasn't damaged, and was so scared of Megatron he flat out refused to stand up to him when challenged by Megatron's insane ass, and couldn't beat Megatron even when controlling Predaking's body. Optimus Prime kicked his ass, Death's Head kicked his ass, he couldn't beat Scorponok, and he got routinely punked by Galvatron. The only people I recall him even beating were the Dinobots (who both Megatron and Galvatron trashed) and Cerebros (which ended up with Shockwave getting caught in Earth's orbit and burning up on reentry).

Definitely because of the Marvel Comics. Cartoon Shockwave was a bore. He was literal. "Cybertron shall remain as you leave it." Seriously, in 4 million years, the best he could do was keep the stats quo?

Interesting design and fun toy, terrifyingly cold and powerful marvel comics incarnation (which has influenced pretty much all subsequent incarnations).

Obligatory posting of Shockwave's finest cover.

Also, have you held his G1 toy in your hand?

Shockwave is my favourite because he's a being of pure logic. He sides with Decepticons because he calculates they have the greater chance of winning. He follows Megatron's lead because he sees it as the logical choice. His cold, calculating nature coupled with his inhuman features (the lack of a face being the prominant example) and his powerful form are what make him such an awesome character to me. Also, his G1 cartoon voice. Classy as hell.

Plus, his G1 toy is a goddamn role-play laser pistol. What's not to love?

My friend showed me his original G1 toy that he's kept all these years; still in pretty good condition. It's amazing how much more effort was put into toys back then in some ways.

He was a brilliant and complex shaded grey character in the Marvel comics. I still remember reading his introduction to the comic for the first time - in an era when we didn't have internet spoilers or months in advance toy previews I was blown away.

His famous defining moments are probably his defeat of the Autobots and emphatic dethroning of Megatron as leader … but my defining SW moment is the role he played in saving the day at the end of Time Wars. Fantastic character and in reviewing various TF fictions it’s difficult to argue there being a more competent Con leader.

I really liked his voice it was very sad, distant and lonely. I really liked his dreamwave version it was very powerful but intellectual at the same time and the opposite of the megalomaniac or egotist we are used to

The Marvel comics are the main reason for me. Just downright badass in those comics.

Other factors include his G1 voice, his awesome design, and a very unique toy.

    because it's... logical?

the gun hand. it's gotta be the gun hand.
like a pirate hook hand, but better.

that and the lack of exposure of the 'bot compared Bumblebee.

Shockwave is my favorite character from the Exodus novel, where he is portrayed as a cruel and immoral scientist.
