Why is Hot Rod constantly fishing in the 1986 film?

The introduction of the character occurs in a scene where he is observed to be fishing with Daniel Witwicky.

Later on, he uses a hand-mounted saw while underwater to kill several robotic piranhas.

Still later in the film, he is captured and forced to fight Sharkticons.

Is there some sort of extended metaphor related to this? Something only comprehensible to Floro Dery?

as for the fishing...well, on earth he was fishing...on the other planets he was just driving over fish...which doesn't really count as fishing.

The early fish are biological, caught from a pond...

The next fish are mechanical carnivores, a minor threat...

The last fish are Sharkticons, who walk as men...

They're EVOLVING TO CHALLENGE US EVERYBODYPANIC!

    Really?

During the summer my Brother-in-law and I go fishing quite a bit on the river and see plenty of "brothers" down there fishing with us.

It means Hot Rod is all wet.

Or that the writers had a water theme in mind for him.

    *shrug*

I'm pretty sure you just had a pop-culture stumble there, guy. Think you meant 'swim.'

You've got the movie on pause, dude. Click on the "Play" button on your remote. There's like another 90 minutes of movie after that. :lol

    (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I thought they were trying to turn Hot Rod into a modern-day Tom Sawyer and Daniel can be his Huck Finn.

And I could have sworn I heard somewhere that brothers don't "Go South", whatever that means.

I think people have way too much time on their hands to think of dumb stuff that has no point. But that's just a casual observation.

I don't it means anything at all. Not everything has a deeper meaning or is a metaphor.

I think the OP meant it as a somewhat humorus observation for people to run with and some others just don't get the joke.

If Ramjet can like toast, Hot Rod can like fishing

    It's simple really...

On Earth Hot Rod used bait.

On Quintessa Hot Rod WAS bait.

To be a good leader one must experience things from all angles... not just the dogmatic view of the Jedi

    ...where'd that come from :redface2:
