Because for the most part, the G1 cartoon is poorly written.

The comics were much better. Even as a kid, I thought this.

I dunno - perhaps Unicron's death depleted him of that X-Factor? He wasn't quite the buffoon in the Headmasters series, though.

And yes, I second the opinion that the comics are far, far superior.

I did like the Headmasters cartoon. Oh if only it had the American voice cast and music, it would have been up there with Beast Wars.

The writes really did a job in both Rodimus and Galvatron imo. Galvatron also suffered severe brain damage due to bein thrown though Unicron's head, resulting in madness and mood swings.

^This. It was stated in the show that he was nuts because his circuits were fried from being in the plasma bath.

Try filtering your own intellect, personality and know-how through a haze of insanity and irrationality and see how well you function. :redface2:

And Galvatron did have his crowning moments of awesome in the third season. Remember when he subverted the alien psychologists' equivalent of therapeutic shop class in order to build himself a friggin' laser gun? :D

Blame it on g1's incredibly poor plots and inconsistency between episodes.

I felt that the US writers really didn't put a lot of effort into this season. The Headmasters series shaped Galvatron better than the US did. I liked his character, and wished that they could've done him justice here in the states.

He was maddened by his ordeal. Went nuts. Kind of obvious to me from his behaviour and erratic-ness. Cyclonus tries to 'cure' him on some rehab planet as I recall - which was a tad silly, but it reinforces the point.
Some people seriously didn't see that was the case?

I don't get why it never continued either in the USA. It would have been great. The English dubs on the DVDs are poor and cringeworthy and I just can't enjoy them with subs.

I don't think he was a wimp. He was crazy sure, but he never took crap from anyone. He kept blasting and punching his followers all the time and seemed to tolerate failure less than when he was megatron. I think what lends him to be looked as a whiner sometimes is because the voice changed too much. I liked his voice (other than the movie) in ffod and towards the end of the series. I do think he could have been portrayed more like the japanese version if the writers would not have continually kept making him crazy. That's why towards the end of the series he seemed more stable. I remember his fight against the transorganics in the chamber (I don't think they ever had him in that much action as megatron) presenting him as a warrior.... and then he used his sweeps as fodder too.

we know that, but why couldn't have the character still retained his awesome aura he had in the movie? Why dumb down a character, did it sell more toys? Was it their appraoch from the start and forgot to incoperate into the Movie?

I adore Galvatron in the 1986 movie, maybe he was too much like Megatron but as a leader he felt threatening.

Kids found movie Galvatron too scary, and writers were ordered to tone him down.
