i hated ironhide's death as much as all of us and was heartbrocken to see it but the truth is it had to be done

there is no way sentinal could have got in and out of nest with the pillars if hide was alive, he would have just gone balistic on him

and ironhide couldn't be in chicago because he would kick to much ass, the cons wouldn't have a chance

he wouldn't just surrender to the cons and it would take like ten cons to hold him down and that would look kinda stupid

Agree, Ironhide was my favorite autobot. It was him or Ratchet, someone familiar had to die in that movie.

yes we know. Ironhide was overpowered, was the third strongest bot, they can't write, blah, blah, blah... Is there a point to this thread other than Ironhide is great?

Everyone already guessed Ironhide to die in this movie. Everyone saw it happening, but expected him to die on a blaze of glory, not a shot to the back.

Optimus Prime = 10,000+ moving CGI parts
    Ironhide's cannons = 10,000+ moving CGI parts
Now that's a bitch to animate all that stuff...(btw, I know his cannons were not in the 3rd movie)
    You do the math :D

As much as it sucks, I think they had to kill one of the main 'Bots, just to show the "seriousness" of situation. They couldn't kill Optimus again, they didn't want to kill Bee because of fans, so it was either Ratchet or Ironhide. Since Ironhide was 2nd in command, it was more dramatic to kill him instead of Ratchet. Had they killed Ratchet, instead, most people wouldn't really care much and movie would have ended 5 minutes after that with Ironhide just blowing up everything.

Ironhide is the equivalent of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. Old, grumpy, has big guns, but has to die in the end for the drama-effect :)

I was shocked and heartbroken when Ironhide died. He is my favorite next to Optimus. I understand why it was done but I feel it could have been done much more honorably than a surprise shot in the back.

Why could it have been done more honorably? It was done perfectly. It made people hate Sentinel that much more, and showed that Sentinel was such a manipulative old bastard that he had everything planned down to a T. Take out the strongest 'bot at the time by any means necessary (in this case, a surprise shot to the back), and throw the entire group into disarray.

In my opinion, Ironhide's death was perfect for what it needed to do.

Well, they had to kill a long-time Autobot to show how serious Sentinel's betrayal was. It couldn't be Optimus, 'cuz they already did that, Ratchet wouldn't make such an impact on people if uit was him, and Bumblebee... Is Bumblebee. The only way BB would die is is Simon Furman wrote the movie.

They killed him because he was a supposedly important Autobot who wasn't Prime or Bumblebee, who are essential to merchandising, and because he was a "badass", showing how powerful and how much of a thread Sentinel Prime was. It's pretty elementary storywriting.

Nah, it would be weird without Bee. He's one of the major characters with a lot of screen time

    By weird you mean better.

But really it was because if Bee died Sam would have totally broken down and wouldn't have been able to do anything in the final battle. Ironhide he could live without, Bee he couldn't.

I only really got annoyed about Ironhide with the news that the movies will continue, because when a character dies during the finale of a series...meh, whatever it's done anyway, so they aren't missing out on much. But when they die in the middle now the franchise moves on lacking a character.

And since Ironhide was one of the Autobots with some actual personality, and pretty much the only Transformer in the entire film franchise that had any character development (notably going from not being very fond of humanity in the first film, to seeing their worth after seeing people like Sam and Lennox in action) there will be a large gap to fill in the next films. One that I don't think the staff as is will be capable of replacing properly.
