    Imagine this:

There's an Autobot in the movie named ?????? who transforms into a Chevrolet Trax.

There's an Autobot in the movie named "Tracks" who transforms into a Chevrolet Corvette Centennial.

Every time you say "Tracks", you'd have to point out "the character, not the car who's a different character".

    That's not gonna fly well.

I would be highly impressed if they even mentioned the other car was a Chevy Traxx during the film.

Techincally there wont be a conflict because they wont mention the car name.

However as much as I am biased towards it being Tracks I m pretty sure we just have a new transformer on our hands whose name is Stinger. Of course stinger could just be short for Stingray or those large ass blades on his forearm

I see your point but they never really referred to any of the 'bots by their vehicle type (yes there were some references to the Camaro but that's not the same). When Ironhide was on screen people were thinking "OH HEY THAT'S THE AUTOBOT IRONHIDE" not "oh wow a GMC Topkick with custom smokestacks!"

It doesn't matter whether they ever reference the vehicle models in the movie.

You people seem to forget the HUGE advertising, magazine features, car website shit and whatnot that will precede the movie.

Someone among the Powers That Be will TOTALLY insist that it'd be too complicated to explain why there is a robot named Tracks who is not the character that turns into the Chevy Trax.

Same reason why they couldn't call the Allspark "Matrix".

They hardly ever referred to the actual car model's names except for Camaro once in the movie. It could still be tracks, wheeljack or hot rod.

But I would think that Hot Rod would be red.

I don't think so either, I think there would be a higher probability it's a character like Bluestreak or something then Tracks.

    I think it's a resurrected Jazz.

Think of it. Word is Meagron is brought back, what better way to establish that they can bring dead TFs back then to bring back Jazz in the beginning of the film.

    its obviously Silverstreak

    1)silver
2)wheel feet means moving fast, like a streak
3)recent rumor from unconfirmed source says he was blue in G1-Bluestreak
4)someone believed him to have a Prowl-esque face, right? well isnt he a repaint of Prowl in certain lines? (only one i know of is Universe, but i think he was that way in G1 too)

ok, not the best reasons. but still, i think its Silverstreak as thats a VERY fitting name for a bot like that.

For the movie, I'd have to agree. I'm thinking he'll either be a new character or named after a different G1 character. However, I can see Hasbro maybe doing a repaint of the Corvette as Tracks.

Yeah, they're trying to bring more character into the machines, which would probably include all of them having totally different names to back up their totally different personalities.
Could get confusing and like you said, you'd have to point out which one you're talking about when you say one of their names.

QED. There's nothing more to the theory that Tracks will be in this movie, unless they name the Chevy Traxx character "Tracks" (ugh).

I think we must agree that as far as the general public is concerned (the ones that played with Transformers as a kid but grew up out of it, i.e., the target audience of these films), the only names that must be somewhat causally connected by a chain of reference are "Optimus Prime", "Bumblebee", "Starscream" and "Megatron". The rest is just a respectful acknowledgement of the fandom but in reality, its own thing.

Besides, my money's still on "Blurr" for the Centennial Corvette. Again, think of it: most of Bay's robots could be described that way; why not have a descriptively accurate name, then?
