So, I was reading my world history ap book and came across the word rex, which was translated as king in latin. If you're a five year old and don't know that grimlock is a Tyrannosaurus rex, which means king of the lizard animals and so that's why him grimlock always king. Also, why couldn't wheeljack & Ratchet make better brains for the dinobots after they had better brains after war of the dinobots?

They heard someone say dinosaurs were dumb and they wanted to make them accurate. I mean, forget about putting feathers on them or not having them breathe fire or making them the proper sizes or whatever, the brain thing was easy to do.

(alternatively they may not have the best equipment available on an Autobot exploration ship that crashed into a mountain millions of years ago)

Because Wheeljack is a lazy and incompetent asshole. He never does anything right. He couldn't even die right. Arcee had to move him to a proper dying spot.

For what it's worth, people back in the 80's didn't realize that dinosaurs were the ancestors of birds and the concept of a T-Rex being a giant, feathered turkey with teeth was remote. Even the greatest dinosaur movie ever, Jurassic Park, gets it somewhat wrong. But that's not exactly their fault, either...we've found out a lot about dinos since then.

Yeah, and it does kinda make sense to not make your supersoldiers also super intelligent.
OP and Megs could both have been in trouble.

    And Goldbug
To be fair, I read somewhere that they discovered imprints of Tyrannosaurus skin, and it was scaly. Also, it was warmer in the time of dinosaurs, so it's unlikely that larger dinosaurs like T-Rex would have needed feathers as an adult.

What purpose would the feathers serve if they knew they had them in the first place? Not even Lazerbeak and Buzzsaw had any......

Because this^. Wheeljack is neither incompetent, lazy or an asshole. He is just more like an alchemist than a scientist. Plus personality programming in G1 was a Quintesson/Vector Sigma thing. The fact that Ratchet and Wheeljack went as far as they did with the dinobots, is a mirracle into itself

    ^^THIS.

I do like the idea of being almost miraculous, which helps explain why they couldn't just make new Transformer Life too easily.
...I mean, if you ignore the fact that the next episode they make 2 more on Prime's whim!

At least, it wasn't a popularized opinion yet. The warm-blooded, fast, clever dinosaur theory wasn't really in the popular imagination until Michael Crichton wrote Jurassic Park. The Love in the Time of Chasmosaurs blog Love in the Time of Chasmosaurs does some great posts analyzing pop culture depictions of paleontology and tracking how they change.

But in terms of TFs, you can see it as easily as pre-Jurassic Park dinobots vs. Post-Jurassic Park Dinobot/Megatron/Terrorsaur.

UPDATE: When I was a kid, I made up an idea that Wheeljack and Ratchet never thought they would get the Dinobots to Vector Sigma...so the best they could develop were low-level artificial intelligences, just above drones. I mean, the G1 cartoon dinobots never do get Vector Sigmatized...so, they aren't even fully-realized Cybertronian life forms. (I know it's really just a continuity error...I know that.)

Wheeljack and Ratchet wanted the Dinobots smarter, they even created a couple of memory components to upgrade their brains. Optimus voted against it and had ordered the Dinobots to be locked up and never to be activated again, since they where too dangerous and gotten of control...

But what I want to know is how did the Dinobots got smarter later on in the series? didn't they have the same level of intelligence as they had earlier in the series?

Maybe you don't remember but they actually did use those upgraded components on the Dinobot's
