With all this ruckus made from the world cup, I noticed that there is an England team, and not a Great Britain/United Kingdom team. Isn't England a province or something of the sort?
England, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom all represent different things. http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/britain.html http://www.britainusa.com/faq/showfaq.asp?SID=273 I'm not sure how it pertains to the World Cup, as I'm not sure if the England team is comprised of players strictly from England, or if it also consists of players from elsewhere in the UK.
I believe in the past, the countries which make up the UK such as England and Scotland merged or formed some sort of political alliance of some sort. Its kind hard to explain... With regards to the World Cup, yeah the people representing England are strictly from England.
NO. England is a country. My country. I've just been doing a temp job in London, carrying out surveys for the council; if someone said they were English (or Scottish, or Welsh) we weren't allowed to put it down, we had to put "British". It's political bollocks gone absolutely fucking mad, and it sickens me. I aconsider myself English, NOT British.
England, Wales, Scotland, N.Ireland and Eire all have their own teams because we are all separate countries. Unfortunatley not all of us ever qualify for the finals of the World Cup (Wales never have as far as I know ) In Olympic football there would be a British team (i.e. made up of players from England, Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland) but they can't ever agree on what players would be in it, because every time they figure out a team it's either just the England squad or most of the Manchester United squad so doesn't represent the member countries evenly.
We don't do Olympic soccer because FIFA would come down on us and ask why the fuck we field a GB team for that and not the world cup. As far as I am aware.
Is it? I did wonder as in rugby union there are the national teams and then the GB Lions but then rugby isn't run by FIFA.
I think thats right. The fears are several fold. FIFA also govern, to an extent, all the national leagues, which would be condensed in to a Great British league rather than the current English/Scottish/Irish/Whateverthefuckthewelshdo leagues we have now. So... yah.

The Welsh are pretty cool in my opinion. Their language is uniquely theirs and not a “classic European language” in the general sense. It has its own history that isn’t connected to Latin, much like Celtic. The Celts and Welsh, I think, were the people indigenous to the Emerald Isles. For such a small land, its pretty impressive how England has culturally, economically, and militarily dominated the entire world for a long a time as it did. I do have an off the wall question tho. When I was like 7, there was an English show that had a classroom full of immigrants trying to learn English. The show was horribly stereotypical (ie Indian guy with turban with Indian accent, Japanese guy ending everything with “-o”, etc). Does anyone know the name of that show?
The main reason we're all forgetting is that England barely stand a chance in the World Cup as it is. If we have to include a few Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish players, we'd really be fucked.
The short version is that they are all seperate conties, but rule over them all consilidated througth wars and royal shinanigans between 1600 and 1800. Great Britain is everything on this bit of land and the United Kingdom is all that, plus Northern Ireland and the various Islands we own. The rest of Ireland used to be in as well, but they broke off in the 1920s. I've not got anything against the majority of people from rest of the UK themselves, but I take serious issue with the current politcal and economic arrangements. Mind Your Language.
I always thought it was more to do with the fact a British team would be basically the England team possibly with 1 or 2 different reserve, that is of course if it were a team picked purely on who are the best players. Please note I have no love for football and have no national pride in my team, I think they are over paid wankers just like all the other international footballers, my opinion that the England players are better is based upon what I have seen of them play and past match’s played. Oh and as Britain is part of the EU I class my self as European, it seem open more door as they have to higher multiculturally these days.
