This is a rant involving but not about...

    Dogs
    [IMG]

Why don't people allow dogs in public places such as restaurants and stores and the supermarket? It's ridiculous. Dogs are like people. They have feelings. They can be happy, sad, scared, hungry and stuff. But they are discriminated by not being allowed to enter buildings of business. Don't you find that nonsensical? The only places they are allowed in are pet stores. But I don't think that's good enough.

I think a lot of the people that run the businesses hate animals. If I ran a business, animals would ALWAYS be welcome, because to me, they are equal to people.

So, why can't we allow dogs in public places?

Allergies and possible constant annoyance are two reasons.

Because some people, like me, are afraid of dogs and don't want to be anywhere near them.

Allergies and the fact that not everyone trains their dogs well are main reasons.

Probably because they would shit and piss everywhere, not to mention bark all the time - and maybe bite someone?

I tell ya, about the time a dog takes my steak off my plate in a restaurant, or I step in dog shit at the supermarket - there would be one less dog around!

Yeah. Someone might get a rash or they might eat your food. But what really gets me mad is why they won't let me take my turtle in 7-11?......

Yeah, and then there's the fact that animals can tend to damage property & make others feel uneasy, which is especially relevant for places like restaurants where food gets involved, or even anywhere that has small things. Like, I'm not trying to be a hater or anything (and I don't think anyone else here is), but those are just a few of the reasons that come to mind, and that's not even getting to liability concerns.

Dogs aren't people, no matter how much some people convince themselves otherwise. Dogs create hygiene issues, noise problems, allergen issues, and the other issues stated above. And as bad as some people are about letting their kids run amok, imagine the havoc when the huge number of irresponsible pet owners are allowed to let Spike or Killer run around Wal Mart. It's a pet, so it's an animal you come home to. You want an escort you can take everywhere? Check Craigslist.

I never said they ARE people. I said they are LIKE people, because they have feelings like us.

The liability issues of allowing dogs in public businesses is a big reason why, most business owners don't want to deal with the hassle of someone getting bit, allergenic issues that will come up, sanitiary issues (not every dog is house broken among other things), etc. and being fined/sued for such problems. It's a major mess they'd want to avoid.

Neighbors down the street let their dogs run loose around the whole neighborhood. They bark at everybody and will try to bite you. If these owners let their dogs run loose around like that in the neighborhood, would you care if they let them run around like that in places you shop or eat at just because "dogs are like people too"? Hey lets take these loud ass dogs to the theatre where people just want to relax and enjoy a movie.

What reasons are there for a dog to be allowed into public places? Is the dog paying for diner? Does the credit card belong to the dog?

First off, I love dogs. But I understand why they wouldn't be allowed in any place that serves food. However, I don't see why they can't go into stores that don't sell any kind of food, like a lumber or tool store, as long as their potty trained and don't jump up on people. It's a shame, because dogs are such beautiful, loving and loyal creatures. In a fair world, it would be most people who wouldn't be allowed in the stores, because most of them can't hold a candle to dogs. :)

allergies, dogs being unpredictable sometimes, people being afraid of them are all very common reasons. not to mention the hair getting everywhere. i love dogs too, but there's a place for them.

Yup....its like everyone said. Human beings cannot be trusted in general to be responsible pet owners (thanks to the few idiots that make headlines for all the wrong reasons). Business/store owners don't know you nor do they care to and will not risk having their business affected on the off chance that you are one of those irresponsible pet owners. Its all about the money they make, and if their customers sue, or start leaving because of the afore mentioned potential problems, then that affects their bottom line.

They're not going to let that happen.

OK this PC BS needs to stop if some are considering ANIMALS to equal.

Do you want to be standing by when two dogs see each other in a fancy restaurant and decide they hate each others guts? Nothing says high class like two dogs going apeshit while you're eating your $50 meal because people just can't leave their animals at home.

Also, apes are smarter then dogs. Should we be able to bring chimps wherever we want to? Dolphins are pretty smart. If I have a tank on a doly, can I wheel my dolphin down to Walmart to go shopping with me. If you're lucky, he won't spray random people with his blowhole.
