why doesn't hasbro put more detail on tf figures?

It seems like cheap plastics to me when i look at these toys(especially deluxe ones).
    for example:
    1) Tf classic universe prowl... his thighs, missle launchers, fingers, elbow.. all just white plastic, no detail. All hasbro has to do is add some colors or outlines, or put some shades.
2)animated swoop(from pictures)... his feet and wings, all blue.. so cheap plain,, they could have added details/mechanical lines etc etc..
3)Tf universe sunstreaker, the yellow ain't bad..just that they could have outlined the headliights..add more black.. or add detail, ESpecially the rear panals of the car. (i'm not trying to compare g1 and Universe sunsteaker.. if i look at the g1 version, the colors are all balanced out, more contrast, not as plain in comparision to the universe one)
4)Universe tanker/octane, his huge claw style weapon is just one shade of light grey, looks cheesy/unfinished. If they would put some outline in it/shades it would really bring out the details.

Nevertheless, they are good designs but just missing details.. just my opinion..
    Can someone please explain?

Are these figures at mass retail in the US already!? How do you have all of these characters if they're not out until August?

Tons of reviews/pics of Swoop? ONE Asian site has SOME pics.
I won't fault you on Universe stuff... Since it's out in Canadia.

And to answer the question... Details require paint. Paint costs money. The toys are probably about as good as they're gonna get without a price hike. (DON'T use the movie Premium line against me on that. The cost of the molds was probably covered so they had less overhead = more stuff that can be done within budget)

Yeah it comes down to budget.
Which is why takara normally releases out figures with better paint detailing.
Seeing as they have a smaller market they have a bigger budget.

I'm not sure how much money they spend on the molds though.
Even if a line is north american based, it's normally takara that engineers them.

I actually spent a few minutes looking through the feedback section of this thread and, by and large, it looks like the figures you're talking about are not largely available in the commercial US as of yet.

Now, if you paid a lot to have these imported exclusively, I can understand why you might be frustrated - you've paid a very high price for an item that was produced at a $10-$20 price point, which includes the quality control that one pays for at $10-$20. The plastic and mold detailing of those figures likely don't have any problems, but since you're buying mass retail figures that were budgeted to be, as part of a net worth, only in the aforementioned price range, you're going to be paying for that quality - in paint, mold, plastic and figure detail.

If you were buying a Masterpiece figure, which regularly retails at $99 or so, I could understand paint issues being something to get frustrated about. However, the figures you've mentioned were designed with a mass release to 5-12 year olds in mind, not to collectors, so QC on them is not going to be fastidious.

very simple explanation, more detail less $$$, less detail more $$$

average consumer (a kid) doesn't care much about detail

I didn't have any of these imported, but i know that they actually look like the ones in the reviews and pictures that is lacking details. Again, i'm not trying to compare g1(premovie) to universe lines or any tfs hasbro is making now(excluding premium). I'm looking at the toyline as a whole. In the g1 days, the tfs($8-14 bucks) were also mass produced, also aimed at kids, but the amount of details were alot more compared to todays.

Do I need to explain the concept of "inflation"? $10 back in 1984 went a lot farther than $10 today.

While I agree that some details would be cool, Swoop's wings are excusable.

They're like that in the show too.

That doesn't matter at all. We're talking about toys you purchased from a production run of toys that were designed from start to finish to match the supply/demand curve of $10 toys - just enough effort/detail/etc. to make money on them at $10 in this day and age.

I mean, you can point out that quality is different between today's toys and the transformers from the '80s, but I don't think you'll find anyone that will dispute you on that. Now, as for the gripe that the paint apps or the QC on today's transformers is "poor," well...you get what you pay for.

I guess having a perfectly articulated robot that has the ability to transform into decent scale mode of a car is not good enough for kids these days.

Seriously, what do you want for 10 bucks?

    Damn you MTV...
