Apologies if there's already a topic discussing this but I didn't see one.

So for this topic I would like to talk about Robots in Disguise Grimlock. Now this isn't a topic to complain about his personality or appearance or rather than kind discuss the possibilities of how Grimlock went from how he acted in IDW comics/Cybertron games to how he was first seen in RiD. Now I know the simple answer is because the show writers didn't want to follow what Hasbro had laid out as canon for them and wanted to write their own canon, but it would be neat and interesting to see if it is possible to somehow connect the two incarnations that Hasbro insists are one and the same.

So in Fall of Cybertron you have Grimlock as a tough, vicious, and prideful warrior that isn't really keen on following Optimus' orders. He hates Shockwave for experimenting him and his team, transforming them into the dinobots. It also establishes that Shockwave had placed a chip in his head to limit his thoughts and freewill in an attempt to control him, causing him to come off of a bit animalistic at times.

But then you have in Robots in Disguise, having been arrested for accidentally causing property damage but strangely enough he seems more cheerful, less prideful, and less violent. Now while he stills doesn't follow orders from time to time, he seems to take orders from Bumblebee much better than he ever did with Optimus. Then there's the question why he had the Decepticon insignia considering that would be the last thing he would want considering how he came to be a dinobot in the first place.

One might say that he had something to do with the chip in his mind but he tended to be prideful and tough before then but a little bit less violent and vicious. So why do you think RiD Grimlock acts the way he does?

    Really? Then someone tell that to the TFwiki mods, that's kind of where I do my research and it featured both FoC Grimlock and RiD Grimlock on the same article as the same character. ^^;

RID barely has continuity with TFP, I imagine any continuity beyond that was cast to the four winds.

    Aligned is.... Umm, fucked.

Nothing works together, they just share ideas. TFP and RID 2.0 are the only things even connected together as shows.

Please don't relate HM's good work on the games to the shows.

And yeah, it's just cat shit.

It helps to think of him as Grimlock Jr.

I never understood that Aligned thing-thingie. I mean, doesnt make sense when you put all together. xD
Green and black Grimlock is just his own character, not related with G1 Grimlock at all. ^^

I think it's like some I've heard say about BW Megatron, where he just named himself after Megatron.

Here RID Grimlock named himself after FOC/IDW Grimlock

Supposedly it's a different Grimlock. Or so says the production staff.

It may be as likely that they simply did not bother to familiarize themselves with the rest of this so-called "Aligned" and "Continuity".

Honestly, it's the Aligned. It stopped making any sense post FoC.

Just enjoy the show and don't examine it too closely.

Yeah I know show creators most likely didn't have the aligned continuity in mind but I like trying to piece it together for fun. I suppose that's my author mindset at work though. XD

because deep down inside the big bad scary space t-rex is a cuddly gentle giant. Grimlock's no longer afraid to be who he really is.

I dunno. Shockwave recaptured him and experimented on making Dinobots more controllable, maybe?

I often think that Shockwave abducted Grimlock again at some point and created more Dinobots while rebuilding Grimlock and made a personality from scratch. Unfortunatlly it backfired.

Hmm, that is actually pretty plausible and it would explain why Grimlock had the decepticon insignia on him. I'll admit I never considered the possibility of Grimlock being recaptured.

Is Shockwave also a wizard? Becauuuuse then he did everything. Why? Because logic dictates so.

I like to think the RiD character we call "Grimlock" is an Alicon that adopted the name and then did like a million sit-ups
