On netflix, if you look at the title beast wars, you see under it in parenthesis it says "beasties: transformers"
    why does it say that?

It must be the canadian version of the show. Effectively the same, except "BEASTIES" instead of "BEAST WARS" was yelled during the theme song. In Canada, you're not allowed to have "war" in the title of a children's show for some reason. So "War Planets" (also by Mainframe) became Shadow Raiders, for example.

That's the later Canadian (and I think other places at the time) title. I believe the idea behind it was "Beast Wars" sounded too aggresive and not like something parents would let their kids watch if they only heard the title. Which is weird because the toys and videos were still called Beast Wars.

Shame, because I don't think any TF series has come close to matching the epic metal title of "BEAST WARS!" *guitar riff*

I blame the evil legion of soccer moms.

Ironically in enough in Japan they had that rap War War Stop it! By Bannana Ice as the first opening theme.

Also when Fox Kids re-aired Beast Wars in the early 2000's it kept it's Warsy title.

No, that wasn't the reason it was renamed. And it was a war. A war is a kind of struggle. Have you seen how they fight in that show? It's most certainly a war.

Although none of this really explains why Netflix is using the outdated Canadian name.

They changed it because canadian people just hate America I guess. Same reason they stole First Edition toys from USA and also the same reason they keep animating that Johnny Test show.

It's weird because we made Beast Wars yet changed the title for our airwaves.

Johnny Test is like a train full of manure. Everybody hates it, but nobody can stand to get close enough to stop it.

The sad part is that they got Ocean Group Studios voice actors in it. Some of the best voice actors in Canada and they have little else shows to work on.

Pretty much. The funny thing is here that both of those were basically Canadian Shows to begin with, and that much like Reboot & probably Weird-Oh's, were apparently given a lot more leeway from YTV in terms of content than what American networks expected. There's some pretty funny stuff on youtube (I'm assuming its still on youtube anyway) about how YTV was more concerned about guns & boobs than anything else, and how they got away with more of that shit anyway later on.

Truthfully though, I always thought Beasties was a pretty funny name that sounded more like working title than anything else, but it's nice to still see people freaking out over it today.

Yes, it had to do with Canadian children's television regulations. War could be mentioned during an episode, it just couldn't be in the title.

Fox Kids did keep the title as Beast Wars, though they hacked the series to pieces because of the violence. It was a shop of edit horrors. It was clear the person doing the editing wasn't a professional. It was basically unwatchable.

'Beasties' always sounded more like it would've been the Scottish title of the show. Maybe 'Wee Beasties'. And now I want all of Beast Wars re-dubbed with Scottish accents. :)
Presumably some people will search for the show on Netflix using the 'Beasties' name if that's all they ever knew it as.
