So, I was watching the Amazing Atheist (trust me, it leads back to the original point) and he did two videos on a site called Teens Against Porn/Br3aking Porn. In the second, he showed a thread asking why it was so bad, followed by someone saying something stupid about Ted Bundy, and a moderator locking it. He pointed out that on no other forum would a question about the forum's premise get the thread locked. And that made me come to the question.

So why do you love Transformers?

I would've posted this a while back, but I realized that I should probably have my own answer first. Recently, I found an old notebook, which I had aptly titled "Transformers". I read through it, and I realized why I used to love the '07 movie so much, the very thing that got me into the brand. I had basically written a novelization, where in I had written detailed character studies about all the bots in the movie. And I remembered that I had considered those cannon. And then Animated came out and blew my mind, and I really got into the brand.

So for me, it was the characters.

But I want to know: What was it for you? Was it the nostalgia? The plot, or premise? The genre?

Keep in mind that there are no wrong answers, and that most people on the interwebs are at least casual fans. There are no wrong answers here! Unless they contradict your opinion.

    LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Personally I love the premise. I'm a sci-fi geek and the concept of an alien race of mechanical organisms that can change shape really intrigues me. In a world where all sci-fi has very common elements, this one is unique to Transformers. That is the reason I love Cybertronian modes (when they are designed well like in the games) more than Earth modes; it's their native and natural forms. Cybertronian modes show their culture and their personality.

I grew up with Beast Wars and loved that series very much. I never got into the Unicron Trilogy but always had an interest in the property. I got the movie games, despite despising the designs, because giant robots turning into vehicles is cool. I liked the level that took place on Cybertron in the first game. The War for Cybertron came out and just completely sucked me here.

I got to see Cybertronian civilization in a mature more realistic fashion. I got Cybertronian alt modes that obviously called out to what they would become yet still looked alien. I was hooked.

On top of that, Hasbro has really been solidifying their mythology for the property. Yeah I wish that their religion weren't treated as 100% fact but the fact that these giant robots even HAVE a religion gives me a sci-fi geek boner. They've also been showing that Cybertronians are not merely robots but mechanical lifeforms with similar and relatable problems.

So the main answer I have to this question is I love it because it's unique and growing deeper.

I love the franchise for it's wonderful fiction, long-lasting popularity, and the toys themselves. What's cooler than a robot that can turn into a car or jet or dinosaur?

By long-lasting popularity, I mean how it receives more updates than say, G.I Joe or Thundercats. Also, the toys of those two franchises are limited to an 8 inch space on the shelves and some stores don't carry them at all!

I like Transformers because it was what I grew up with. The first Transformers show I saw was Armada, and I was hooked. Nowadays, I like all of the series (even though I'm still iffy on Animated).

For me, Transformers is just a constant in my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love these shows: G1 cartoon, TFTM '86, TF Prime. They are entertaining, exciting and keeps me interested, especially TFP. I used to love the movieverse, the reason I came back to TF after a long hiatus, but have lost most of my fondness for it for quite sometime. Hopefully, TF4 will re-ignite my interest.

When it comes to toys, I am fond of TFP, some G1, some Classics, etc. I love them for the aesthetics, transformation, and the characters they represent.

They're robots. That turn into things. And things include just about everything, from bugs to toasters to biplanes to music players to sharks-crossed-with-hawks to TRON-esque vehicles to heads, and everything in between. It's like every awesome thing rolled into one package.

It's basically the concept of two robot sides at war. Which is interesting to me..... In addition to the 'robots in disguise' concept.

Because I'm a mechanical (and ever so slightly chemical) engineer. Life made out of inorganic material that posses the power to shape-shift? Gimmie!
Even other people in my firm enjoy the more current iterations of autobots and decepticons.

Loved watching the G1 reruns around 2004-2006 on Boomerang Channel. I loved them and even though I only got the Cybertron toys and watched that cartoon, the Sunbow cartoon had a place in my heart.

Though, over the past year, I've come to love Transformers for the premise as well, just recently getting into Prime. I loved animated too.

Back when I was in kindergarten, it was when Armada was still airing on Cartoon Network. I was flipping through the channels when I came to Cartoon Network. It was the middle of an anime and I saw these tanks, fighter jet, and helicopter chasing these two kids (Fred and Billy) and when the humans were cornered, they transformed into these gigantic robots which I thought looked freaking awesome. Then out of nowhere a semi-truck with a trailer, an ambulance, and a sports car show up and transform as well. I thought they were the coolest things I ever saw. And it only got better because the semi-truck robot yelled, "SUPER MODE!!!!" transformed again and combined with his trailer which made little 5 or 6 year old me very excited. And then they battled with hand-to-hand and blasters blazing, some yelling, "POWERLINX!!!!" making more powerful weapons pop out. The bad guys were then defeated and three more kids (Rad, Carlos, and Alexis) come out and introduce the three good robots (Optimus Prime, Hot Shot, and Red Alert) and it was like i was being introduced to them alongside Fred and Billy. So that was my first experience with Transformers. So I kept watching more episodes and what really cemented my love for the franchise were something called "The Unicron Battles." The sacrifice, the battles, the desperate mood of all the characters just kept me wanting more.

Then my dad found out about this video rental place called Videos R Us (which is now closed down) and before the Transformers I would normally rent out some Thomas The Tank Engine stuff from Blockbuster, but this time I wanted more Transformers. So my dad asked the guy behind the counter if they had any Transformers video tapes (VHS FTW). The guy pointed to the back room, so that's where we headed. So my dad asks me which one do I want, and since Optimus was my favorite character I picked out this one which had Optimus on the front. And that was the day I watched my first G1 episode: The Return of Optimus Prime. And man did I love this tape. Then I started watching more and more G1 tapes. Personal favorites of mine were A Prime Problem and City of Steel. Then I one day I was walking through Blockbuster, and I saw it: The Transformers The Movie. And that's when I experienced many experienced in '86, the death of my hero Optimus Prime (I missed the Armada episode where Prime died and the episode afterward so I didn't know he died). I didn't hate Hot Rod for it since I still liked his character in the movie, but the movie really was the last thing I watched from G1 for a while, since something new was airing on Cartoon Network, Transformers Energon.

This one I didn't really watch a lot because the first few episodes were a bit boring to me which caused me to start taking interest in other things like Star Wars. Then another beautiful thing happened, Transformers Cybertron. Now this show had my attention from episode 1 to when they for some reason stopped airing new episodes.

The movies were a blast too. 'Nuff said

Animated bored me a little because instead of Autobots vs Decepticons I got Autobots vs humans.

Prime is everything I could have asked for in Transformers. And it did something I don't think anyone saw coming: killing off an Autobot in the first 5 minutes (with Energon dripping like blood) and Transformer zombies. I still enjoy the series and excited for every new episode and the upcoming Predacons Rising.

I know many people hate it, but I gotta say, I love Transformers mainly because of the Unicron trilogy, mainly Armada and Cybertron. And today Cybertron is still my number one series.

i never watched transformers growing up, read the comics, or owned a single transformer toy as a child.

I was a G.I. Joe kid. Been collecting them for a while and just kinda got introduced to Transformers via collector forums, and looking at other people's collections online relatively recently (lots of Joe collectors are also TF collectors).

Ended up purchasing a few at Target just for shits, and that's all it took, I was hooked.
Even though I still don't really know much about the characters and their back-stories, or the different story arcs, I get that nostalgic 80's toy vibe from them.

I guess I just dig 80's toys and their remakes, as I don't really get that "vibe" from Marvel Universe, which I also collect.

I've been a fan since 1984. Tuned out during Beast Wars but got back in from RID onwards.

I just love the original concept - transforming robots in disguise on Earth. To me, it always comes back to that. It was a huge part of my childhood and a delight that I can continue to enjoy it now.
