I'm 15 and I can't deny that I like shows like Animated and Armada but G1 is the greatest continuity in Transformers, thats why they still use it for scource material and directly. So why do you like it?

Oh yeah. My reason why is that, the first show I watched entirely is Animated but because of all of the cameo's I wanted to know where they came from. I got into transformers because of photos my friend Scott showed me of G1 character Bio's from Halls of Hillarity .com or something like that. It is all of the above options I put in the poll.

maybe because it is not a "continuity" but the Genesis, it all started with G1, without G1 there would be no g2, no beast wars, no RID, no armada, no cybertron, no movie no animated NO NADA! I mean, it all though in different continuities and universes, exist because g1 existed.

    got g1?

also because i grew with g1:D

It's a sprawling, well-written epic, which captured my boyhood imagination like few other fictional works have. I'm referring to the Marvel Comics, by the way, which I consider the one true interpretation of G1. The G1 cartoon sucked ass.

    The flawless animation.
The incredibly full, three dimensional characters.
    The complex plot.
The acting was phenomenal. Unmatched by any TV show before, or since.

I could go on for hours...

It's (for the most part) harmless. They didn't know they were going to spark such an everlasting and incredible property as this when they made TFs.

Anyhoo it was from a different time. Even rewatching old MASK episodes got me thinking, 'there's no way today they could name a new toy 'Switchblade' and get away with it.'

I like it for its general iconography.

Not everything, mind you. There's a lot of junk in G1. It's extensively flawed.

But the core elements are brilliant. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Starscream, Megatron, Soundwave. All very unique and iconic, and instantly recognisable designs. Devastator, the Dinobots, Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod, Cyclonus, Unicron. It also laid down the groundwork. Autobots. Decepticons. Cybertron. The Ark. The Matrix.

These are the enduring symbols that make Transformers what it is. And it's not merely because they were there first. There's a conceptual strength to them that makes them endure.

I ticked "I grew up with it" which, while true, doesn't sum it up as well as this:

I remember having some of the comics, but the cartoon made the greatest impact on me. I can remember hoping to get home from school in time to watch it every day, and if early enough maybe tape that day's episode. I was a jet junkie back then (having only recently discovered Flight Simulator and Jet for the IBM PC) and since red is my favorite color, Starscream became my favorite TF. My two greatest TF days in 1985 were the day I saw Starscream's Brigade on TV and the day I found a Starscream toy at Sears...

I like it because it, flaws and all, because I see it through the veils of nostalgia and remember being young enough not to give a damn about the animation or pick up on continuity errors. The fact that the characters it gave us are still around today in different (some might say better, some might say worse) forms is a testament to the strength of the original design.

This, mixed witha little nostalgia, plus just the oveall lasting impact. I realized over the summer that at 32, just how much it's impacted my life. it's really impressive how it grew into what it is today.
