I'm not saying they are aliens. They're humans most likely. But with their gear on their heads, they look like those stereotypical grey aliens with big black eyes. I know it's just their gear, but why did the designers choose to have them look that way? Could this be some foreshadowing of what is to come? Afterall, Prime sent a message into space warning all those wanting to come to Earth with hostile intent.

I think it's just a coincidence or a quirk more than anything else.

This makes me wonder. Are Cybertronians the first aliens that Mech has encountered? They didn't seem too surprised with the appearance of the autobots. Maybe, Cybertronians aren't the first. They are relatively advanced, so maybe they've obtained some alien technology before. Maybe through trade or maybe by shooting the aliens down.

They're probably not aliens but they're designed to look like them. makes it harder to relate to them and thus harder to care when they get smashed.

An excellent theory, but Silas looks perfectly human and I won't care when he gets his (and he will) because he's a murderous, sadistic arsehole who nearly sold an innocent woman and her son to a giant space faring Hannibal Lector for the sole goal of science and possibly world domination. He doesn't need to look inhuman, because his inhumanity shines through brightly.

    Fuck that guy.

    Not that alien. This one.

These are your typical bug-eyed aliens people claim to be abducted by. The MECH soldier is wearing head gear that resembles this face somewhat.

I think its just a coincidence. The MECH troopers look no more alien than most other sci-fi armor-clad cannon fodder.

    Most likely?

Uh, to make them look stealthy? It's basically ninja masks and goggles. It's to make them harder to see at night, and to save the animators from animating facial expressions and lipsnych on nobodies.

They're not aliens, nor is it forshadowing to any non-TF alien.

Well unless they are cloned and genetically modified. Maybe that explains why there are so many and they all are the same height and speak with the same voice? Who knows.

Perhaps. But I find the look interesting still.

This is likely the truth. This is a kids show remember. Violence against robots are okay. Violence against people is bad. You have to dehumanize the human villains to make it acceptable for children.

Don't read any more into it than that. You're just setting yourself as a crackpot theorist.

I think it has to do more design changes for the minion like characters over the years.

Back in the 80's the Cobra blue shirt was kind of typical of the bad guy troopers look. A mask to cover up the lower part of the face, perhaps a helmet, and the area around the eyes exposed. Easier to draw in the shocked look before someone like Flint punched them in the face.

But over the years night vision goggles or goggles that would do other cool things became all the rage so the bad guys minions were drawn with them on.

Helmets tend to go in and out of popularity so on a show like Transformers Prime MECH is shown without helmets but on the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes the Hydra troopers wear helmets.

Maybe its also easier to show to kids. Its probably easier for the kid to love the main character who's pulverizing a faceless grunt than if said grunt seems like an actual person who's showing genuine agony and emotion.

The masks hide emotion and feelings, leaving the minions as non-entities to those who are watching.

Or they could just be the same model because making unique soldiers and casting unique VAs would be too much money to waste on nobodies. :/

Maybe they'll bring in more members of MECH in the future. James Remar's voicing someone in the near future.
