I see this happening on different boards and I really don't get it. I can sort of understand signing your real name (not really, still don't get it), but why sign your board name when it's already on the post. See over to the left. Yep, that's my board name. So now I don't have to sign my name again unless my name was Redundant and I liked doing it for the sheer irony.

If you like doing it fine. Whatever makes you happy. I'm just wondering why.

Makes it very easy in multi-page threads to find my posts and read from there.

I still don't get why people sign with different names, or variations like we some how can't see their username on the left

I don't get it either. If I'm looking for my posts, I always just scroll until I find my avatar and go from there. That's only if I don't click on the "show new posts" link next to the thread title.

I don't want to bother when a thread is over 20 pages long and I haven't checked it for a few days.

I *think* what the OP means is why sign a post when you have the signature function?

    But why it's a bad thing I don't know.

I'm not clear how signing your posts makes finding them easier than--I don't know, just searching your recent posts?

I wondered the same, I think it is kinda superflouos. And I always wonder why people have gigantic signatures, which deflects from the actual post and impairs reading fluency. Then I came here and was surprised about the fact that in this forums it is tolerated that people have gigantic signatures. Everywhere else I am a member of, there is a height limitation given because of the exact same reasons I pointed out above.

And it is just a coincidence that the poster on top of my post has a gigantic signature *g*
I just wanted add this as well, because that are two things that bother me most.

    edit:
OK, so now it took me so long for typing, that the poster on top of my post has no large signature *gg*

Oh, okay. I was like, "four lines of text is huge?"

I don't know why I have so much blank space in my sig, though.

You could just search your recent posts or when going manually through a thread, go back as long you can't see your own avatar and start reading when you found it *g*

Hehe, sorry! I just wanted to avoid that Coleoptera thinks I wanted to adress him personally, instead of talking about that fact just in general, so I added the line while writing, and when I finished, I noticed that in the meantime 2 other people posted before me ;)

It is kind of redundant, I'll admit. But the advantages of having a sig means your posts really pop out at you and you can read through the progression of the conversation after you posted.

I never got that either. No offence to you people who sign your posts, but I can tell who you are from your username.

Maybe it's like signature in an email. I see John Doe's email came from John Doe, but he still signs it John Doe.

I just chalk it up to ego and the internet persona. You're a more important faceless commontator on the internet when you sign your posts.
