Guess what? Transformers was a toy line followed by a comic and cartoon... all aimed at children. Do you hate the toys? They're pretty childish, too. Take your comic collection in to your professor of literature, and I'm pretty sure the official ruling will come back that they are childish, as well. So I'm not sure what your hair-splitting point is here.

Surprisingly, my professor was shocked at some of the crap they pulled in the episodes. Especially A Thief in the Night. :lol

Some of the stuff I showed him made him wonder if parents sued when Galvatron was on Torkulon... :lol
    KILL... SMASH... DESTROY...
    REND... MANGLE... DISTORT!!!!

    Aimed at 10 year-olds rather than 8 year-olds?

    So fucking childish..
I thought you learned to stop being a Mark...

I like the comics and some of the original character designs... Yet I grew up wasting one of my summers marathoning the whole G1 cartoon...
The way you put yourself out there, is audacious... I have yet to read all the comics, too, despite the sci fi theme mythos in it... But damning! If I WANTED to read EVERY SINGLE TRANSFORMERS COMIC SINCE MARVEL TO IDW, I'd do it, not post it.

For good reasons back then, too.

g1 is just great cheesy fun. that's why.

just like most 80's cartoons. it's nice to go back to old cartoons, and comic books, and just see what kinds of things they used to get away with in the 80's.

i mean i have a comic book from marvel, from 1984, where a little girl is tortured by electricity, by a bunch of lizard men.

you can't have that sort of thing in today's comics, and you couldn't have that sort of thing before the 80's either.

it was the 80's, no one really paid attention to comic books, or cartoons back then, other then us who were kids. thus they were free to get away with almost anything.

as one pointed out, i loved the relationship between megatron and starscream. and i loved how everytime optimus and megatron were to fight, there was never a clear winner, it was mostly either a draw, or megatron would cheat.

i loved the movie. it took all the characters we loved between 84, and 85. and murdered them! right in front of our young eyes! G1 had balls.

sure the comics might of been released first, but where most of us got exposure to it most, was the cartoons. the cartoons was what made us buy the toys. and that also made us want to see our favorite characters fight it out on the tv.

is g1 cheesy and campy? yes. does it have some really bad plots? yes. does some of it make no sense what so ever? yes.

    but it's the 80's.

in the 80's we didn't care too much about on going continuum, plot holes, or physics broken.

and personally, i did not grow up with g1, i grew up with g2. i was born in 1983, thus i was too young to have seen the show.

but it was g2 that really hooked me. even with that cube, even knowing it was cheesy back then. but that's part of the fun. they always had fun with every episode, and i enjoyed watching them. hell, Carnage in C minor, is hilarious, if you don't take it too seriously. it's a perfect example of how every series has at least ONE bad episode. :lol  but it's so bad, that it is actually a comedy to watch.

but it also had some really nice episodes. episodes that created backgrounds to characters that exists to this day. like Orion Pax.

orson wells once described transformers as *paraphrasing* "toys fighting a bunch of other toys."

and comics later to follow, especially DW, took that concept way too seriously.

they tried to make it some sort of epic serious story line. and it failed miserably. i mean just HOW seriously can you take a bunch of robots that turn into cars, that battle over control of glowing cubes? especially when we come right down to it, it's really just about what Wells said, it's all about toys battling other toys.

it's all about fun. it's all about just enjoying it.

that is why we like g1. that is why we like sunbow's cheesiness.

    because we enjoy it.

it's also though why we like beast wars, and series to follow.

all because g1 existed. and most of all, all because of that 1986 movie that was just so awesome, that we just wanted more.

it made us never forget transformers.

to this day, you can ask any one about transformers, and they all remember optimus prime, and the "tape guy"

the original transformers left a massive impact on most of us who grew up with it, and that is why we like it.

also to be fair, besides beast wars, transformers prime, and animated, no series has ever really come close *at least in america* to recapturing how awesome it was to watch two toys battling it out.

we all still continue to watch the next series, and the next movie, or pick up the next comic, all because of g1.

why do we like the cartoon so much? because we do. there is no simpler way to put it.

Nostalgia - it bought our toys to life and gave them voices, and a cool transforming noise.

Some people seem to use nostalgia as a pejorative. Not me.

because it's personal preference. The real quyestion is why do so many people who are over the age of 20 (not directing this at the original poster) feel the need to go back and pick apart a kids cartoon with all the logic/plotholes in it.

    I enjoy childish bullfuck.

I'm a 28 year old toy collector. I don't take myself so seriously. It's Transformers, not Citizen Kane.

I'd like to see the OP try to sell Citizen Kane toys to kids.

+1. Most people who prefer the cartoon have never read the Marvel comic. Such a shame.

I beg to differ. I liked the comic, but the cartoon better. wwhy is there such animosity and the need to "put people in their place" if they don't "respect" the comic as the superior continuity? all the issues people rag on the cartoon for, the comic had it's own set. Crappy art, they killed off half the good guy cast in the 5th issue and left them that way for a while. They were at the mercy of getting rid of characters within the span of a few months just to sell more toys. Again, I liked the comic, but saying it's totally superior over the cartoon when each had their own "issues" is a waste of time. Neither is better than the other, it's a matter of taste.

I can understand liking the cartoon for the dumb campiness of it, but saying the comic isn't better written than the cartoon is an outright lie.

    Your opinion.

By the way. This discussion sucks. I can understand that there are differences between fans of different Transformers shows. But G1 fans against G1 fans? What the fuck. And you can NEVER convince someone else, that your taste is better than theirs.
