Have you ever bought a toy which later got a superior toy later down the road?

For example, I got Voyager Ratchet last year and I thought it was a mediocre toy after a few toys playing with him. I wanted to return him, but I threw away the packaging.

Now comes 2010 and a well-praised Deluxe Ratchet. Now, I ask, why didn't I save up for this guy?

Have you ever had those type of situations?

Most of those newer/superior toys are financed by the earlier versions.

That's pretty much the long and short of it.

I wish I'd gotten Shadow Command Megatron instead of the ROTF Leader Megatron. He just looks better, even if he isn't movie accurate. But I don't want to buy a second Megatron.

I also bought Voyager Ratchet, and I do think the deluxe is the better one. I did buy the deluxe on sale. I had room to display him.

The leader class Primes have improved, too, but I don't own the 2007 leader Prime. The ROTF one is my only leader Prime.

    Constantly.

Latest example is Legends class Wheelie. The Deluxe version is stupid compared to the little version.

even though the deluxe looks better (scale can go to hell, that little legend class monster looks like E.T.)

It happens a lot. But with Ratchet I'll just use the Voyager Vehicle and Deluxe 'bot mode :)
I'm glad I didn't get Megs last year though.... But I'll probably regret getting the ROTF one
also when the next one comes out. I regreted getting TFTM Prime. ROTF Prime is the greatest.

Well... you never really know what's going to come out a year from now. Or when a figure is released, there's little way of knowing what other figures they have planned for that character later on.

You can't seriously complain about not having a sense of clairvoyance to know not to pick up a toy because one that hasn't been designed yet will be out in a year. You bought a toy last year, a "better" one came out this year... just buy the new one.

Like in the first movie line? I bought all the movie characters, only to have them release the Platinum or Premium (can't remember what they were called) movie charactrers with better paint jobs so they were more movie accurate. What a crock...

For some reason, I've always felt that the Armada line was more of a successor to G1/G2 in terms of aesthetics and engineering and felt that the toys were better off coming before BW/BM, RID, Energon/Cybertron, etc.

All those Batman, X-Men and Spider-Man toys I wish I could buy when I was a child, but there were none. And now that I'm grownup you can buy everything I ever wanted as a toy. But that's well 20 years too late?

voya Ratchet vs dx ratchet is one thing, a same toy with much better paint apps is more annoying than that (universe vs Henkei, leader OP vs buster OP)

Don't know if it fits into the subject, but I've completely gave up on G1 cars and reissues after Classics.

Partially becasue ocassionally they dont get enough time to develop a better toy
after the final animation model is decided upon.
    (see Leader Megatron)

Partially becasue they simply want to squeeze more money out of a character, or a particular mold of that character.
    (See Leader Prime)

I love the deluxe Ratchet it is superior to the Voyager but i still really like the voyager. For one the alt mode for the voyager is much more accurate and he has a fun transformation and i love how huge he is over all in bot mode for a voyager.

I hate that i spent a ton of money importing Car Robots only for it to get released here as RID. No significant changes in quality from what I can tell

i bought bumblebee from the first movie, to have all the rest be way better. but at least i didn't give into getting $80 henkei thrust. now that he's being released by hasbro for what, maybe $15 the most. dodged that bullet.
