As the title says, why? All of the Decepticons (bar Dreadwing for obvious reasons) were better developed and appeared a lot more before Megatron came back. For example, Soundwave and Starscream. Two characters with enormous potential that slowly degraded after Megatron returned. Starscream hasn't done anything that has lasted, except finding the Harbinger again. Soundwave has given us two of the most insanely awesome moments of the show, but that's two moments in 30+ episodes. Both did a hell of a lot more before Out of His Head.

So can someone explain why, and give your thoughts on the matter?

Just because he's Megatron, and we can't have a TF series without him. No sir.

He was more or less out of action for about 10 episodes. How long do you think he should have been gone? Pretty sure that sets a record for the longest time Megatron, Galvatron or whatever the current leader has not been in charge.

Start Season 2 with Megatron's revival, then we have a whole season to see Soundwave, Starscream, Breakdown and Knock Out live up to their full potential.

Does that include TF:A Megatron? He was around, but not in charge for a whole season.

I remember that during Megatron's coma there were many discussions that went like "When are they going to revive Megatron already?"

The sad truth is Commander Starscream, despite his flaws in keeping in line his subordinates, did a better job run smoothly the Nemesis and making plans to defeat the bots and take over the wrold (without taking too many risks) than Lord Megatron.
What happened to the Starscream of Darkness Rising? It was really necessary degrading him to a bumbling buffon just to make others look good?

When Megatron revived he didn't do anything except collect mcgriffins and collect Energon and Dark Energon, and continue building a space bridge.

When Starscream was in charge pro-active and his plans made sense, and also pragmatic...generally he never did anything strategically stupid (Kidnapping Fowler might have damage the Nemesis but it was smart, to take the opportunity to learn the location of the bot base)

All in all, he was a pretty good commander for Megatron......
Basically Megatron's a Good Fighter and inspiring leader, But he needed Starscream to manage things and he needed Soundwave to Manage Starscream.

That's basically how he runs things...He gets a competant smart (But not nessesarily loyal) 1st Lt and gets him to work with his loyal spymaster who watches him closely.

I don't know, considering he barely did FUCK ALL while he was back, and his return was only epic for, maybe, a few seconds. Everything Megatron has going on now wasn't even his own doing. The whole "Project Iacon" (which is a dumb name) was an accident. It just so happened that Optimus lost his memories. If that hadn't where would he be now? Still floating up in his ship doign nothing. He never causes any change. He never does anything. Everything that happens to him is the result of other characters' actions.

Why of course, since the writers obviously don't know how to make a proactive Megatron, they have to downgrade Starscream so as to make it believable that he's no threat to Megatron.

Kind of tough to enjoy a series when both the heroes and villains are reactive. Maybe for the series after Prime we'll have proactive heroes and villains?

It's true that the SS we were introduced to no longer exists.

We're talking about a guy who was at gun point by three-four Autobots and answered with a "Oh, but I might". What the f*&k happened to Starscream? Why did the clones sneaked into the Nemesis like (literally) cowering dogs (SS #4 even lowered his wings in a way that a dog lowers his ears JUST BY SPOTTING VEHICON SHADOWS).

Being a fan of SS right now brings me back the painful memories of being a fan of Krillin in Dragon Ball Z. Characters who get the role of comic relief are doomed to make / say stupid things just for the lulz.

Starscream *kinda* gets some cool scenes, but they're getting more and more rare by the ep. In Armada he had TO KILL HIMSELF in order to gain badass points. WTF!!??!
