He "might" be on the show way later down the line so why bother? Why not an established character? Sari, Ironhide, Arcee or Elita-1? Or even the other Dinobots even if they don`t end up on the show?

I guess one of the designers came up with a cool concept while the show was already planned and in production.

And they're working on arcee, though they probably put her on the backburner because
1)she hasn't had that big of a roll yet
    2) it's going to be hard to design her toy.

Tradition. No transformers series had cartoon versions of every single toy released under the same name. There are also lots of people who don't give a rip about the cartoon but will still buy the figures, so why not make one?

With all the chopper hype in the last few years, I see why.

The story at the con was that they had an open space in a future wave and it needed filling. So someone whipped up Oil Slick to drop in that space.

As far as not using Ironhide or Arcee, it could be a few things. Wanting to keep an Autobot/Decepticon balance, or not wanting to use an established character for a throw away design, or they just didn't feel it as important.

I am sure they made lots of designs and not all of them got used on the show. Besides, they said he will appear in the comic and probably on the show later.

I like that we’re getting 1 toy that will ‘possibly’ be in the show later. If they do bring him in, I am sure oil slick will have the same impact that he already has on me, that I will get him/be happy I got him. I’ve been customizing my bike for the last 2 years and minus the barrels and ram head, he’s pretty close to my design and color scheme. To be honest I wouldn’t mind making that bike for myself.

Point is, that even though he’s not a core member, but like Wreck-Gar, Blurr, etc…doesn’t change the fact that dope toys can be made regardless if we have a consistent personality to match them to.

Um... Animated is going to be so popular that Hasbro has to actively try to design shelfwarmers for this line???

He clearly added the jar because he was tired of losing his head!

I think it might be possible that Hasbro simply wanted to put another kind of Motorcycle in the line. It makes sense for variety. They've already got Cars, Trucks, Tanks, Jets, Helis, and whatnot, but they only have one bike so far... seems like a shoe in when considering that some kids may want to have a Crotch-Rocket vs. Chopper battle. And, as some other posters had mentioned, Choppers have been quite popular over the past couple of years.

I have a feeling he was worked up as a show character early on and then was dropped by the writers. I don't have any proof of that or anything, just an opinion.

They did say at BotCon that they wanted him to be a bounty hunterish character to sorta parallel Lockdown, which he works perfectly as.

Or Lockdown's lifted up from the bottom of the river, revived by Megatron by using allspark shard, and to mark his own resurrection, he scanned that bike and since now he's officially a Decepticon and no longer his former self, he changed name to Oil Slick.

    :p

I'm pretty sure at one of the panels one of the writers said that they weren't aware he was being made until after season 2 was done being written or they'd have found a way to use him.

At any rate, he's a very cool, all-new character. I like him for the fact he's not someone from a previous line, but a totally new 'bot.
