Maybe he thought that it would help find the other pillars. If Shockwave pretended to fight, then that would explain his quick demise at the end.

 

Yeah. Shocky attacked them so Optimus would think the decepticons want the Ark, making him go get Sentinel first.

 

To quiken things. By showing up and revealing himself, it forced Prime to be more hasty in retriving Sentinel from the moon. Plus it made it more convincing. That's why he didn't put up a real fight, and was basically just running around makign a scene until Optimus disarmed him, then legged it.
