Another thread whining about Ironhide dying.

 

Because his death was necessary to the story. Ironhide was the second most powerful after Optimus. With Ironhide dead, that was another step close to Decepticon victory.

Because you tend to die when your insides turn to mush and become your outsides.

 

To increase the drama of the story.

 

to try to evoke shock in the audience.

 

Because they felt they had to kill someone who wasn't a throwaway to make the situation look "dark" and other than Optimus (who had already died once, and obviously can't die again because he's the hero of the story) and Bee (who they'd never kill since he's Sam's buddy, and their main GM advertisement) the only other Autobot that did enough throughout the films for people to sort of remember his name was Ironhide. And even then they'd said his same like 5 times in the 2 minutes leading up to his death, just to make sure people would get that he's not a throwaway like the other Autobots.

Of course they promptly ruined it by having nobody acknowledge or mention this death. Because dick jokes with Sam's parents are more important.

 

Ruined? Enhanced is more like it. think how more dramatic the original Star Wars would be if Luke's aunt and uncle made some awkward sex jokes before being killed.

 

Ahhh, please, it was a year ago...
He's dead. Accept it and move on.

By the way, Ironhide's death was a very good step in the movie. It made Santinel evil, shocked the audience, and made the whole story darker.

 

because he forgot to put his plot armor on before he went to work.

Honestly Ironhide's death wouldn't have been as traumatic if Ironhide had gotten a mermorial or gets honored in a speach or something. It makes the Autobot seems uncarring to their own kind.

 

So that Sentinel could be shown as betraying the Autobots, and as a legitimate physical threat. It's just that simple.
