Why is it america only got "man of iron" but none of the other uk transformers comics in the 80s? Marvel printed the uk gijoe stories but not the transformers ones? I would have loved to have read target 2006 as a kid.

Anyone know why marvel didn't print the uk stories in america?

Maybe because they contradict some stories in the US run? Dunno.

    They've made trades and collections.
Why they weren't printed in both US and UK, I don't know. Maybe Marvel thought that American kids wouldn't like the same kind of stuff British kids like?

Generally speaking, Marvel UK stuff just doesn't come out over here. There's been a few exceptions, but it's basically the rule. Marvel UK did get at least some of the US stuff, but that's just because Transformers had a magazine format, with multiple stories. That sort of thing is common over there.

Not enougth market i'd imagine, that GI Joe book came out at the end of 80s IIRC and the Transformers franchise was pretty much running on vapor at that point.

If you mean "back in the day" (and your original question implies it) the answer is simple.

The UK material was SPECIFICALLY CREATED to fill in the scheduling gap that resulted from the UK comics market of the 1980s being geared toward weekly/fortnightly publications, and the US being monthly.

Marvel US did not print the UK stuff because:
    1) They didn't have such scheduling issues (except once when stories were going to be late as Uncle Bob was working on Headmasters as well as the regular series, hence Man Of Iron being printed) so why would they..?
    2) Marvel UK was seen as a somewhat insignificant outpost of the empire, and not something really worth much attention. There are interviews with Furman where he basically admits there was little contact, and he rarely got any sight of what Uncle Bob was going to do next!
    3) A monthly schedule would've meant it took YEARS to reprint all the UK stories - again, why would they? esp. as 1986 turned into '87 and beyond, and the franchise started to die.

Understand. Still gijoe got the uk stories printed here, but then again gijoe had 3 books a month plus mini-series!

It's clear gijoe outdid transformers sales wise.

    Don't forget the digests!

Transformers was too odd for me in comics at the time but Joe was kick butt awesome (remember the whole snake eyes origin story and the love triangle with Lady Jane?). Best use of detention in 5th grade ever.
