Why couldn't Transformers the movie get an intro like this?

Watching this intro I got to wondering "Why couldn't Transformers the movie get an intro like this?"

I mean both movies were production by the same animation studio.

I ALWAYS liked the S2 intro of Transformers the best, simply because of the animation.

I know that 1986 is dead and gone...However

Anyone else feel that TFTM should've had a better intro?

I mean all the movie got was a rocked out version of the original theme. We didn't even see any Transformers in the intro.

    Anyone here feel this way?

Transformers was made to be akin to An American Tale, and even Star Wars. It was supposed to be the great animated tale of the Transformers. It was given the "big screen" treatment.

If you thought Transformers box office was a failure, you should have seen the numbers for GI Joe.

Keep in mind, no outside score for GI Joe, no big name actors for the voices, all in-house stuff.

Nope this was Direct to video due to TFTM and My Little Pony being big flops.

And I'm not whining,I just got to wondering why TFTM didn't get as cool an intro.

It's not like I'll lose sleep over it or anything ILD ;)

And it's HIGHLY unlikely I'll whine about the new movie. As so far I'm not bothered ny it :D

P.S. Cool avatar ILD,Kyubimon from Tamers rocked.Renamon REALLY knew how to kick booty :ev:

I don't think TFTM or MLP were big flops.

Also I yeah Renamon and Kyuubimon are awesome, I hated her other forms.

I've never seen the Joe movie before, somehow, and that was actually pretty cool. They kind of went all out eh? Does the rest of the film following even come close to that?

I like the old TF movie as is. I have many of the same fan gripes you've heard for years, but I can still watch it and enjoy. Just nostalgia getting the best of me I guess.

As for the TF movie being a bomb, it wasn't released in many theatres, and was put out during a time when all animated movies, even Disney, were failing miserably. Combine that with shit reviews from people that didn't understand anything about the series before seeing the movie (something the film comes short on I guess, it just sort of throws you into the middle of everything, pretty bad if you're not familiar with the series) and the film really had little chance for success to begin with. Too bad.

I don't know, I kind of like the crazy direction. "Rawr every character ever flying right in your fucking face." Some of the shots were pretty damn tasteful too, or at least in my opinion. Only thing I didn't like was the goofy song and narration, but that was just keeping in spirit with the show's intro so I've no reason to complain about it.

I've always enjoyed the G.I. Joe: The Movie intro, but that intro has nothing to do with the actual story/flow of the movie--it's nothing more than a random battle, a setup shot showing us both Cobra and Joes.

Transformers' intro on the other hand actually ties into the movie; it IS the movie. If a battle, that was actually part of the story, was shown, I would have been all for it.

    PS:
Thanks for that link by the way--I haven't seen that scene in ages. I'm going to watch it again and again for a while:p

Nice insight. I too appreciate how the first TFTM scene sets up the Unicron threat/movie plot rather than just being some random thing. Creates a sense of mystery and "impending doom" quite well.

    Regardless, it unfortunately was.

We Tranfans do tend to look at it through rose coloured optics.

By many people's standards, particularly those not into uber-cheese, the movie itself wasn't very good.
But by box office results, yeah, it did miserable. Regardless of whether or not any of us wanna believe it. lacklustre does not even begin to describe it.

    Good point

    Good point

Not having watched TFTM for at 1.5 years,I forgot that it transitions from Unicron eating Lithone to the theme.

Although the mindless shoot 'em up action of GIJOE's theme was deliciously cool

Love the GI Joe movie intro. That is a stunning piece of animation.

also if you think it is impressive on that grainy screen you need to see it on a HQ dvd on TV. It is beautiful!!

Always did love that intro. Far and away the best part of that movie. Followed closely by Big Lob's dialogue, which falls well into the "so bad it's awesome" category. :lol

As much as I hate to disagree with you, I love the GI Joe Movie intro. I've got in MP3 form on my MP3 player and encoded as a movie file so I can watch the movie on the go.

That intro is horrible. Especially that crotch shot in the beginning of the Cobra soldier...

Thank God TFTM wasn't like that... IMO I think that TFTM holds up pretty well 20 years later, while GIJoe looks very childish.

Plus the guitars in the TFTM actually kick ass...
