I don't see what's wrong with it. In a way it makes sense if they have bullets as well as lazers. A smart soldier should always have different kinds of weapons in warfare.
For one, Stormtroopers aren't real (well, unless you're talking about the Rohr Assault Battalion or the 2nd and 3rd Shock Armies or the Blue Putees). For two, (and, oh god, I'm a nerd) they don't use lasers in Star Wars, they use blasters, which fire bolts of ionized gas plasma as opposed to a beam of focused light (a laser). And both sides in the movies seem to be using plasma and particle-based weaponry.
Because bullets are HARDCORE. They RUPTURE ORGANS, BREAK BONES and make people BLEED AND ALL THAT SHIT. Lasers are antiseptic. All they leave is neat, clean, cauterized wounds.
No sir. A rail gun fires a solid tungsten slug that is propelled by twin linear induction motors, that fire the round at hyper velocity speeds. The velocity of the round is based upon the size of the motors. LIM's were intially tested in the early 80's and then suddenly "dropped" due to finance reasons, but in actuality, they are still being tested today by both the Navy and Air Force.
Indeed those are particle beam weapons as they have a kick to them. Like Blackout firing ripping apart C-17 planes and Megatron blasting Optimus to some distance in TF1 and ROTF.
With so many cool weapons in sci fi movies and video games I wonder why they should be confined to just lasers or bullets. The part where the Decepticons were popping people on the street kind of seemed like one of the weapons from District 9 so a few more District 9 style weapons scaled up to Transformers size might have been pretty cool. Or all the cool stuff they could "borrow" from Warhammer 40K like plasma cannons, melta guns, and chain swords.
As I said before, lasers burn rapidly through an object, so if they had used lasers in the movies, they would have all been dead very fast. Think about it. What if Optimus used the laser he used to cut the Ark on Megatron? The laser would have gone straight through him leaving an orange hole on the armor. So they used bullets to make the fight scenes longer and be more realistic.
Bullets have their place, but if I was writing I'd probably use lasers. They are just a cooler effect, and have more of a nostalgia factor than the bullets do.
I dunno...the con aircover had some nasty kind of gun that was vaporizing people, Megatrons guns all seem energy based too. Same with Bee's arm cannon, among others. Not lasers like we're used to seeing but energy weapons regardless
A real weaponized laser we wouldn't even have seen it as it would be of the x-ray or gamma ray spectrum. Kinetic Energy Weapons make more sense since it has a kick to it with mass. Laser is light, Particle beam weapon has mass in it as the faster it goes the more energy makes an impact. Laser also has the disadvantage of blooming as the battle is within our atmosphere.
