Look. I'm 35 years old. I have watched every incarnation of the transformers franchise there is. Personally all pale in comparison to G1, but I watched each with an open mind knowing that THAT set or writers would put their own spin on it.

So to all you haters of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.... :cry

All I have read is who everything was ruined, not needed, vulgar, geeze people its a freakin' movie. Put the remote down, stop streaming it from teh internet and go get some sun and relax.

Here's my take on most everyone’s gripes about the film:

Mudflap and Tracks - You seriously thought they were racist? Have you been around a teenager these days? It doesn't matter what race they are THEY ALL TALK LIKE THAT. They had some of the funniest lines of the film.

Alice - The character made sense when they were looking for the fragment as a means to track Sam/eliminate Sam. I felt she should have switched focus once Michaela showed up with the fragment but you can't argue that Bumblebee vs. Alice in the car was not one of the funniest scenes you've seen this year outside of pretty much anything in The Hangover.

Wheelie - Again, if you think about it a small scrapper robot like that would have that kind of attitude because it would be everyone’s servant, would be exposed to everything.

Sam's parents - I am a parent. When I took my wife to see it, between the laughs (they were hysterical) she must have said "That's so us" about 6 times. Every college I have been to there is always some group of people supporting pot legalization. It's no surprise Sam's college would be any different.

Dogs screwing - Us owners of small dogs realize the humor and truth behind the scenes involving those 2 dogs. Our small dog is CONSTANTLY humping the bigger dog (who at this point just doesn't care anymore). It's a dominance thing. and ITS FREAKIN' funny.
Jetfire - HE WAS OLD. People, go to an old folk’s home and tell me they don’t talk in disconjointed phrases and cut loose with bodily functions like that.

Optimus and The autobots killing decpticons - ITS WAR. Seriously it's that simple. Compassion is one thing, but when your enemy shows ZERO remorse especially for civilians then they need to be dealt with in a manner that will ensure their behavior stops.

Sam's death and resurrection - If you can't see the fact that the transformers arrival on earth is not part of their OVERALL destiny then you clearly have not watched enough of the other series. It's clear as day that in TF3 somehow EARTH (most likely via Sam) is going to play a HUGE part in how they bring life back to cybertron. I almost think its going to be akin to Beast Machines where the Autobots realize that "organic" things can help them provide energy and life. SO why should the "Original Seven “summon Sams spirit to them in order to ensure his destiny (their legacy) is met. Made perfect sense.

Devastator's balls - Ok, yes stupid, but it was still funny.

Simmons jock strap - That's just Tuturo. I guarantee that was his idea.

Leo - Everyone of us has that annoying friend that we love to death. That's Leo. His interactions and physical comedy moments were some of the best in the film.

Overall I think the writing and directing teams did a VERY good job of making these events seem like they could really happen and what people and robots would be like/act like in these same events. That’s what you want from a film.

Ok I didn't read all of it, but i'm going to agree with you.

I'd love to say some people hate ROTF and other love it, but thats not enough. a lot of people hate it for no good reason. What happened to all the hate threads that made me want to hate what they hate? I've seen too many people hating it because it's not G1 enough ,and the humor to give a shit anymore. I read that stuff and i just think that guys an idiot.

My one and only complaint (a pretty big one) is that it's not a good MOVIE. Overall, the whole thing simply does not hold up against other movies of it's genre. Yeah, there were some good action scenes, but the whole movie was so disconjoined I found myself not caring about what was going on.

I agree all the things you said. But ROTF fails as a movie integrity. Haters do not understand this point and shout their hate thought about all the wrong reasons.

"hey man we hear you like to hate so we pimped yer whip with some hate so you could get your hate on while your hating your hate!"

wait am I in the wrong thread? There's so many of these lately I get confused. Is this the I hate Michael Bay or the I hate the people that hate Michael Bay thread?

So much hate lately it's hard to keep straight.

Oh smegging joy one these threads.

Lets flip the coin around for just a second. Why be a lover? Because you found enough stuff in the movie that you enjoyed to look over any flaws the film had. All films have some flaws just to stop anyone before we go down that road again.

So why be a "hater"? Because you saw the film and you just didn't like it. Even if we throw out the question of racial sensitivity Skidmark and Buttflap were like nails on a chalk board to me and I'll never be able to watch the film again because of those two. I like Decepticons and yes they gave us some cool moments between Megatron and Starscream but it's also another pile of dead jobber Decepticons to make me dislike the film.

It's no more valid to like or dislike the movie because we all have different taste. Fandom has never agreed on anything but because we have a movie the stupid idea got planted somewhere that we must all love the movie or we must all hate the movie.

If by hater, you mean one who is driven to rabid passions over their dislike of the film, I'll agree there's no point.

If by hater you mean someone who simply dislikes the film or, like me, kinda found it entertaining but was amazed at how sloppy the enterprise was, we will part ways.

I have long said that one almost never chooses to like or dislike a thing - you can only realize it.

You could just as well ask me why I'm a beet and pickle hater. I can't tell you. I just know they make me want to vomit.

Bullshit. I'm a high school teacher. I see and hear the students both in formal and casual settings (ie outside of class). Those who sound like the Twins are either: a) black kids from NYC, or b) white wannabes. However this sort of idiocy had been deemed acceptable in popular culture long before ROTF, and this seems a silly time to draw the line, given the small part they had in the film.

She made no sense at all. First, she could have been removed completely and not affected the story one iota. Second, only a handful of people our age remember Pretenders - the concept was abandoned 20 years ago. Reintroducing it now, without actually taking time to explain it, undermines much of what has been established. If Transformers can look human, and no one knows this, and the Autobots are unable to notice the difference, why bother with Ravage and Wheelie and Frenzy?

The problem with Wheelie was less his persona than his sole purpose as plot device and comic relief. No character established, no reason for him to switch allegiance, and when he disappears (repeatedly) from the film, who cares?

People supporting pot legalization is a far cry from momma popping a brownie and INSTANTLY getting higher than a kite. The father's turmoil over his son leaving was plausible. The mother needed to be institutionalized.

Yes it is. But this is also supposed to be a kids movie, isn't it? Or is it? I mean its meant to sell toys. They have the dogs humping each other, Wheelie humping Fox, Alice is suggestive as hell, giant Devastator balls, and a kitchen bot with a cock cannon. This is good family entertainment? There is NO reason any of this needed to be in the film, it certainly didn't need to be in there in such quantity.

Jetfire - HE WAS OLD. People, go to an old folk’s home and tell me they don’t talk in disconjointed phrases and cut loose with bodily functions like that.

So if he were wearing diapers and pissing himself, that'd be all good too? First and formost the character has to serve the story, and he didn't. He's just the next in a long line of Maguffins meant to move the story along, and is quickly forgotten. Unfortunately, his "eccentricities" were distracting to many viewers, and made it harder to follow his exposition, which was the sole reason he was in the film.

This I take no issue with. The war had been waged for thousands or millions of years (is that established in this continuity?), and I assume Prime and the Autobots know their opponents.

A film must stand on its own. More people have likely seen the TF films than have seen even half a seaon of any of the other TF series.

If not for the fact that this film makes it clear they are making this **** up as they go along, you might have a point. And really, I didn't have much trouble with this, the problem is there was a payoff with a piss poor set up. All this mythology with the Primes and the Matrix got squeezed into the back half of the film, and was poorly explained to the auhdience.

A joke here and there is fine. An off color gag coming at regular intervals can become distracting and pull viewers out of the film. Hell, as I said elsewhere, this wasn't even set up properly. If we had at least seen a pair of cranes with wrecking balls forming Devastator, there would be a basis for the joke.

Was the S7 boxers Tuturros? The jock fits the pattern seen everywhere else in the film - take what elements of TF1 and crank it to 11 (Frenzy becomes Ravage and Wheelie, the highway chase becomes the Shanghai attack, one dog becomes two, funny boxers become a funny thong, etc), so I'd be surprised if it was JT's doing. Even so, he's not the director or editor or producer. There was no reason it needed to stay in the film.

And why was he there? Right - the comedy. Like Wheelie. And the Twins. And Jetfire. And Turturro. How many comedy acts does this film need?

You must be ****ting me. The film began with a major US military operation is the largest city in China, resulting in the loss of (likely) dozens of lives and millions of dollars of infrastructure, and the Chinese seem perfectly ok with it.

    Yeah, very believable.

I'm sure that's what he meant.

I enjoyed the movie enough, and respect that some people didn't. Hell, I expected that. But unlike some people here, I don't feel this need to repeatedly get on my soapbox and state my opinion or try and change minds. I don't feel this need to bash someone else for not liking it. I don't even feel the need to make any sarcastic comments in any news thread about it.

Acting like that just makes you look like an ugly, ugly person that cannot respect other people's opinions. It's funny, before the movie I avoided this forum like the plague to avoid any spoilers. And to an extent I still am. There's just too much ugliness going on in here. Just agree to disagree and leave it at that people.

After two movies worth of this crap, I'm wondering when the TFW Mod staff are finally gonna say "Enough is enough".

Are you... serious? I mean are you actually serious? How can you say he didn't serve the story?? I think giving us a little exposition on what's going on counts as serving the story. (where's a "jack-off" emoticon when you need one? )

I agree with EVERYTHING that the topic creator said. I just came back from my 4th viewing and I'm still dumbstruck at how people could think this is a bad film. :banghead:

I've been negatively consumed personally lately on many things. For instance finding a new job. I've found it a little surprising to be happy about lacking the qualifications to one thing and that is...a film critic. Like the episode of the Simpsons where Homer became a likable food critic then got remanded by other critics for being too nice. Unlike Homer, I allready know in advance I won't change myself into that type of person to please a bunch of unhappy people just to be one.

I'm just sick of the movie critics now, the paid old farts who have no more TV timeslots and/or a sidekick that is as equally known. Those guys and the so-called fans of this quarter century old franchise who are trying to send it back to the grave as though it were the late 80's/early 90's all over again.

I find this hate not only applies to a movie I really liked such as TF2. But about every damned thing I've seen theatrically not named "The Wrestler" this year. Night at the Museum 2 I really liked and had no initial interest to see it after having not seen the first one (still haven't but will soon). I liked the 3rd Ice Age movie, and still all these unpleasable types are expecting Shakespere on every cinema screen.

If you don't like TF2 fine. If you didn't like the 2007 TF film, just fine too. Don't go to the 3rd film and spare the rest of us for the love of whatever higher being you believe in.

I'm not a hater..this movie hasn't changed how I feel about Transformers, and I don't hate the movieverse. I don't hate people that liked ROTF, or treat them as lesser people.

I just thought it was a terrible movie, is that okay with you? :)

You have restored my faith in teachers sir!
With all that irritating exposition, magic powers and the contrived combination, he didn't so much serve the story as exist as a lazy plot device, barely concealed by a shitty 'comedic' character.
I'm dumbstruck at how people can think this is a good film. :banghead:

    Snap. I went there.
