Why not just the autobots? As a matter of fact why is the show called transformers prime in the first place?

Because there's more then one team in the Autobots and that it has the leader of them all in the head.

As for the title it's supposed to say that we'll see what it means to be a Prime but form the looks of it we either haven't gotten to it yet or that it's already in there but we didn't see it yet.

It's Optimus' team. It's like a real army, there's a ton of different units they're split up in. Another example is that Arcee and Tailgate's crew was supposedly called Delta team.

optimus is the only prime so why not name his team prime. There were probably hundreds/thousands of teams during the war and only one living prime.

He's not the only Prime. Alpha Trion still lives.

Alpha Trion is one of the Thirteen Original Ones, not a Prime. Different things.

What part of "different" did you not read? Alpha Trion is one of the Thirteen, not a Prime. Not all of the Thirteen are Primes.

Optimus Prime leads the team. The Last of the Primes leads the team. Doesn't really take too much thought to discover the meaning of the name.

He is not a Prime in the traditional sense. While theoretically, yes, all of the Thirteen are Primes, but only seven have "Prime" in the name. All Primes that rise after the Thirteen are chosen by Primus, that title bears a considerable amount more significance than the Primehood bestowed upon the Thirteen by existence or name. The Thirteen are not seen as "Primes", but more as the "Thirteen". There is a significant difference.

I do have a feeling that in the case of the Forge of Solus Prime, that only a true Prime (those with "Prime" in the name, and/or chosen by Primus) can properly wield the artifact. Alpha Trion, while an important member, isn't seen as a Prime, likely not by himself, either.

Wasn't there something mentioned in the novels about no one but Optimus knowing that Alpha Trion was the last survivor of the original 13?

I had heard a while ago that the name Transformers Prime has less to do with Optimus Prime, and more to do with to concept of Earth Prime. Hasbro has acknowledged that there are so many Transformers continuities, that they wanted to redefine a central continuity. Instead of what is called "Earth Prime" as a central Earth in the multiverse in comic continuities, this is a "Transformers Prime" as a central Transformers mythos/continuity in the multiverse of Transformers.

I had never heard of that before. Huh. I always thought that the explanation was they wanted to "explore what it meant to be a Prime" or whatever that Orci/Kurztman said.

source: Transformers: Prime (cartoon) - Transformers Wiki

Scroll down to just under the episode listing, under the sub-heading Production. Near the end of the first paragraph it reads:

The show's title was based on the desire to create a master continuity and a literal Prime continuity.[4]

The words "Prime continuity" in that sentence is hyperlinked to the "Earth_Prime" hyperlink i specified in my prior post. The [4] is TFWiki's hyperlinked source for this information: http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/botcon-2011-transformers-prime-panel-172315/
