Theres not really much more i can state here, there have been NO new super robot shows that ive been able to find and ive had to resort to looking back on stuff i gave a pass on before for new material.

Has Japan decided to completely ignore such an awesome and historical part of its animated culture aside from the yearly Super Sentai shows?

Unless im missing something, in which case feel free to point out a new series either already out or on the horizon because ive not found anything.....

And no the new Voltron does not count.....and Mazinkaiser SKL was only a 3 episode OVA......

I wouldn't call prime your typical supper robot show though, it's not exactly over the top, I think the op is referring to things in the essence of Gaogaigar and gurren lagann.

I think it's simply because of how hot blooded these shows can be, that it needs some downtime before a new batch of super robot shows hits the Market. Atm though it feels like there's a focus on super suit shows in recent seasons. Though hey we still have the final eva rebuilds coming soon.

Well, there was Sym-bionic Titan, but Cartoon Network decided everyone liked it too much and killed it. It wasn't from Japan, but it was definitely a super robot show.

    Read the last sentence dude.

Well to me it does seem to be pretty slow for Super Robot anime in Japan.

    Doh! Reading fail. hehe

The modern anime market has way too many moe and fanservice titles for sure. That's probably why I spend the majority of my anime watching time catching up on older titles. Have you seen every super robot show in history? You could maybe hit up some legacy titles for your fix. Also, there's a fansubber working on Grendizer atm with plans to do a full release on October 25th.

2012 is the 40th anniversary of the Mazinger franchise, so I have hopes that there will be a new show. On the real robot front, next year is also the 30th anniversary of the Macross franchise so things might be looking up for old school anime fans.

It just seems to me as though the Japanese super robot market is extremely stagnant and im certain its not because of how Gar the Gurren Lagann series was. And for me, Getter robo and Mazinger have been done to DEATH. They really need to stop producing more alternate versions of those robots and start focusing on new stuff. I believe the fan base is craving something fresh, even if it is a remake of an old series we havent had remade yet. I myself have been wondering when they are going to get around to making a new Grendizer anime, since the first one has a very deep following of fans.

And yes i realize the hypocrisy of my own statements, i just want to see more super robot love. :(

I'm still waiting for the sequel to Shin Mazinger, the ending was a total setup to introduce Great Mazinger.

I'd love to see some more super robot shows. Lately all that's been coming out are dramas, moe, moe drama, dramatic moe... well, I exaggerate, but there's not been a lot worth watching in a while if your tastes are in hot blooded action.

I remember when I was young, these Super Robot shows were THE shows of Japan, and they were always cool. There's definitely been a lack of shows recently, and I hope the situation will be rectified soon. :)

Wha-? Heck no! Power Rangers and especially Super Sentai are living legends.

With the way anime is right now, if there were a new Super Robot show you would probably be disappointed.
I’m pretty sure the plot would be some shy\clumsy guy who accidentally finds himself on a Super Robot team with three to five beautiful girls.
The plot really wouldn’t matter beyond that device as every single episode would be 40% breasts bouncing, 40% extreme panty shots, 10% accidental touching, 5% nose bleeds, and 5% Super Robots.
Every fourth episode would be a recap and every fifth episode would be all the women bathing together and comparing their breasts.

I know it has an American origin, but Symbionic Titan was incredible.
My son and I still lament its demise.

After a surge into international cultural consciousness 5-10 years ago, anime demographics have retreated a lot back into the fringe audience of young adult male Japanese nerds. They are the ones who will stay up to watch or record these shows that mostly run after midnight, and they are the ones who end up buying the DVDs and associated merchandise like figurines. And currently, these guys eat up shows and merchandise about cute girls doing cute things more than anything else. (The Japanese audience also shares the worldwide infatuation with vampires.) I believe the bestselling anime DVDs in Japan from last year (and I'm going off very foggy memory here, so it's possible I'm mistaken) were from the series Bakemonogatari (vampires and cute girls together!).

I've noticed for the last few seasons that there have been a lack of robot shows in general, whether it be mecha or Super Robot, and having seen preview lists for fall, this trend is continuing, aside from the very kiddie-looking Gundam AGE. Studios known for doing mecha, like Sunrise and Bones, have been doing more shounen hero stuff lately instead, (Sacred Seven and Towa no Quon). Actually, the only robot series I can remember from this year at all is Star Driver. Which I'm sure is not to the taste of many Super Robot fans.

I'm disappointed as a mecha fan (I'm not so much into Super Robots, and really not so much into retro Super Robots), but at least there have been the Break Blade (fantasy mecha) and Gundam Unicorn OVAs every few months. But I'm flexible as a general cartoon fan, and at least this year I've had Madoka Magica and Hanasaku Iroha to enjoy. And soon, there will be the second Macross Frontier movie, Evangelion Rebuild 3, and another season of Code Geass, so there's hope for robots yet.

*puts a gun to his head* Wait, that hasnt happened yet..........at ALL. *puts gun down*

In all seriousness i want a series that can be serious enough but fun enough. There are a few that accomplish this well. The Gaiking remake, Gear Fighter Dendoh, almost all Brave series just to mention what comes immediately to mind.

First, those programs that are "something like Power Rangers" are sentai. They are part of the tokusatsu (meaning special effects) genre.
Second, sentai is different than Super Robots, in part because sentai is live action, and Super Robot shows are animated.
    Third, both are awesome.

Lastly, there exists a useful guideline which states that if one has nothing worthwhile to say, say nothing.

Oh, so then Super Robot shows are something like Neon Genesis Evangelion? I like something like this. But I noticed that newer shows somehow seem like carbon copies of NGE, which is sad :(

Maybe Japan decided that there was just no topping Gurren Lagann and decided to go out on a high note.
