Why are classics megatrons gone and optimus sits on shelf?

This is the pattern I've been noticing in Toronto, Canada.
I feel rather certain that the answer to this (to me) puzzling situation is that the optimus is a voyager, packed in vehichle mode, that really looks no bigger than the deluxe figures. Yet (in canada), he is DOUBLE the price (14.99 vs. 29.99).
Once opened, one can understand the difference in quality and hardiness from the deluxe, but many Transformers shoppers are parents shopping for their kids, and I've seen them holding the Optimus box up to a voyager box to compare them in confusion.
The megatron, however, is notably bigger, filling the whole voyager box, instead of about 1/4 of it like Prime.

That's an interesting point. I wonder if parents would be even more confused seeing the two pack. To them the Prime would probably look the same. That'd probably hurt the reguler sales even more.

I've noticed the exact opposite in my area. Last time I went, the local TRU was sitting on 7 Megatrons, with no Primes in sight.

Things are about 66% Primes to 33% Megs as I've seen on the shelves. Usually if they have any, it's Optimus. But if they have more than 2 or 3, there is usually a Megatron.

I think Optimus is worth the Voyager price tag. He may not be as big as Megatron, but he still is fun for kids since he's a truck and robot. Nice articulation helped it too!

    It's because he's a semi without a trailer!

...not really, I imagine, but I always enjoy a chance to rant about semis without trailers. Trukk with trailer > Trukk > Munkey - yeah, boyee!

Becasue Prime has been a truck every year for the last 5 years and a truck for many years before Beast Wars.

Last time Megatron was a gun was 20 years ago.

It's the same way here...most places there are at LEAST two Primes for every Megatron. The biased answer is because Megatron kicks ****ing ass.

I would have happily paid $40 for Classics Prime with a trailer...

Its the same for me as well. I haven't seen a Megatron in like 2 months, but I see Prime in like 4 different stores (TRU, Walmart, K-Mart, Target) for those wondering

Exacltly. It was so long ago, that many of them have never seen a robot that turns into a gun, or don't recall having seen such a thing.

could be case ratio. The newer cases(with jetfire) come 3 primes, two megs, and one jetfire.

I think it depends on the area/store one is looking in. In my area, the first wave of Classics Voyagers aren't really selling much at all. Some stores have multiple Primes and few Megatrons, others have multiple Megatrons and few Primes; it doesn't break down by chain either, as one Target I visit has even numbers of both, another Target has 6 Primes and 2 Megatrons and a third Target has 5 Megatrons and 2 Primes.

I must say that Prime looks really boring in the package, though, so I can easily see it not catching people's eyes very well. The vehicle mode is fairly weak and just doesn't take up enough package space to look like it justifies the $20 USD.

Voyagers come in cases of 4, but yes, they are biased in favor of OP, 2:1:1. That could be part of the reason, at least lately.
