i scrape together some money, and head to toys r us. zellers and walmart were a bust. i see that transformers prime figures have arrived, and from a distance i can see they are first edition. my heart sank as i realized every. single. one. was a bumblebee.

i looked to the movie section, and there were over 40 bumblebees, and barely any other dotm figures. seriously!? i don't know if this distribution is hasbro's fault or what but it really pisses me off. i actually threw one of the bumblebees halfway across the aisle. they weren't too pleased with that.

Hasbro and/or the retailers are convinced Bumblebee outsells everyone else 3 to 1. Accuracy of the claim is harder to verify. :)

While I'll argue to the bone that waves need to be heavily reliant on Bumblebee for the sake of marketing purposes & whatnot, I do think their buffer is getting extensive, especially now that were many years into the movie franchise. Like, I could understand of many of them had drastically different artwork like the Cyberfire Bee or even that translucent Target one, features (like if one had swords or whatever), molds (aka, not all being a pretend camaro), but what you're describing is no secret, and I think it's starting to get to the parents as well. My TRU had almost 20 from just the Prime stuff alone, and most of the time there isn't much else.

On the flip side though, the Generations lines tend to break this mentality & often sell really well, so maybe Hasbro will get the message that they could serve to work with a little less Bumblebuffer, especially given that wave 1 often gets carried on throughout.

If you get angry enough with toys to throw one down the aisle, I think you need to rethink this hobby. Everything is for fun, it's not SUPUR SRS TOIZ COLLECTING.

First of all, they wouldn't be first editions, only toysrus got first editions and that was a very limited supply before Christmas. To answer your question all you have to do is check out how Hasbro packs their deluxe cases. In the first 2 wave, a case of 8 transformers has 3 bumblebees, so while other characters get changed out for arcee and ratchet, bumblebee is overstocked on the shelves.

I didn't even see that post when I made mine, but yeah. I hope he's joking. Like, I've joked about stomping the shit outa Tuner Mudflaps before, but never seriously, and at least he was somewhat of an oddity.

He mentioned Zellers so he's a UK/European resident. I believe they still have First Editions out there?

This. I wouldn't be surprised if they assumed demand for TF toys are low because the BB figures aren't selling.

Hasbro has made Bumblebee into what Spider-Man used to be. A generic butt-kicking character who dominates any toyline he is in that is aimed at all towards kids.

Yeah, but at least Spider-Man was interesting as fuck, and like Batman & other heros, got released in a myriad of designs that pretty much only had to share the face/web design if even that.... and we still complained about those haah.

Well the accuracy is due to the fact that there is nothing else on the shelves so everyone has no choice BUT to buy BB. Can they at least cut it down to 2 per box?

True. Still, why can't my favorite character, Hawkeye, become a child icon. If the shelves are gonna be clogged, they best be clogged with pure awesomeness. Heck, I'll even take a Black Panther line. It's better than a peg with 5 different Spider-Man firgures with "Sea Armor".

To be fair, there have Bumblebee has a good design and some of his toys are excellent. I have HA Bumblebee and the HFTD Leader Class Bee. I love both of them.
