Did Dinobot get himself killed in code of honor because Rattrap made him do it or because he was nuts or just plain too gungho?

Dinobot sacrificed himself in Code of Hero as a way of redeeming himself, to proving that he was still honorable.

That and it was just so badass.

Dinobot was a selfish, self-righteous, egotistical bastard whose only care in life was that of his own.

As soon as that changed, he offed himself, realizing that his strength was now his weakness, and that he may as well give the creators a reason to introduce the Transmetal II Dinobot design.

Dinobot did it to save the human race. Plain and simple. He new he was going to die because of the golden disc.

No, it's Megatron's fault deffinatley, but with that mentality, it seems really the only ones truely at fault are the Autobots, for enslaving the Preds in the first place.

I agree with NGW and SPLIT LIP. Dinobot did it to save the humans (and thereby the proper course of history) at the expense of his own life because it was the right and honorable thing to do. I think Dinobot wanted to prove his honor and his capacity for good to himself more than to anyone else.

Then again, the title "Code of Hero" should be a bit of a giveaway as to his motivation. ;)

I think "enslave" is an exaggeration on Megatron's part. Treated with suspicion and held in check, sure. To Preds of Megatron's ilk, to be "enslaved" means anything other than being masters and conquerors. Besides, it would be the Decepticons' fault for actually trying to enslave or destroy every other race and faction in the universe, starting with Cybertron.

The struggle Dinobot had gone through leading up to Code of Hero is telling in figuring out why he did what he did. Is he the master of his own fate, or is his fate dictated by what's already transpired and been encoded on the Golden Disks? And his line about only at the end realizing that it didn't matter, that they were one in the same.

He did it to save humanity, to save the future, and to stop an obviously insane Megatron from creating a paradox that no one would know the consequences of.

I always found the ending of Code of Hero to be a bit gut-wrenching. Dinobot in one single moment of heroics saved humanity from early extinction, and gave them the means to destroy. I always took the proto-human laying waste to the snake as an attempt to show that humanity learned the ways of war from the Beast Wars playing out around them, and the weapons of war specifically from Dinobot's use of what was available at the time. Over-reading? Maybe. But it's an interesting twist on what some have seen as a message of hope, that humanity was given the means to protect itself.
