'Whoops Apocalypse' is one of the funniest ensemble comedies I have ever seen. It is a movie adaptation of the 1982 series which starred, amongst others, John Cleese.
Though a different animal from the series, the film is rife with political lampoonery and social commentary.
Michael Richards (Seinfeld), Rik Mayall (Young Ones, Bottom), Loretta Switt (MASH) and a host of US and UK talents star in it.
    Anyone else recall this gem?

Not everyone I have leant it to like the whole film, but everybody loved the SAS siege where they storm the wax museum and lose 14 or so men fighting a bunch of waxworks. Rik Mayall is the SAS commander. Its gold and I'm trying to think of a great quote, but this will do:

WARNING! Possible spoilers if you haven't seen the film and hate spoilers - go and see it first!

...that was seriously one of the unfunniest things I've ever seen. More power to ya if you enjoy it, but just not for me.

Yeah, it's pretty much typical left-wing '80s humour. I'd like to think most of the people involved at least have the good grace to be a little embarressed about it these days.

How can you not love cutting his leg off instead of the door!?
Never mind, its not everyone's cup-o-tea.

Actually Rik Mayall said he's still very proud of it and wouldn't pass up an opportunity to do it again. A guy I know that is into the 'Young Ones' said Rik wanted to do a series based on the SAS skit and even did it on stage live somewhere apparently.

That's a shame. Ah well, at least we'll always have Bottom.

Terrible film, but kinda prophetic considering the economic situation we are currently in. Interesting film from that perspective none the less.

Oh it was able to coax a smirk out of me during that segment, but the rest of it is just blargh.

It was one idiot screaming amongst a platoon of morons, and their high-lair-ee-us antics.

Normally something akin to this would get me to laugh like a moron with no common sense, but this one just didn't get it for me. I dunno.

I've never understood it, so I have to ask, what makes the scene left or right wing?
What does it mean to be left/right/conservative? Just something I could never be bothered to really look into and still don't 'get'.

Correct. But the movie version is very different in both execution and story. 'Almost unrecognisable, but refreshing' in it's adaptation according to a review at the time.
