He was, it's just been classified, due to several factors, including time travel secret stuff.

Wow, I think this actually qualifies for the facepalm treatment which is so popular these days.
Also a facepalm for the inevitable "moon landings were fake" post that some idiot will make.

They were fake! The "lunar landers" were made out of surplus desk furniture in a soundstage on Mars!

That's mentioned in the article, too. Apparently, OVER A QUARTER of those surveyed don't believe it happened.

Oy. Buzz Aldrin has his work cut out for him.

I thought it was Oook the Caveman astronaut. He never returned of course. He was survived his brother Ooruk, his wife Unga, and son Ugh. His rocket was made of wood and stone. Fuel was concentrated dinosaur farts...

Who Was the First Person on the Moon?

Many conspiracy theorists have believed, for decades, that it was Neil Armstrong. But do you know who really landed on the moon? Buzz Lightyear. Like the OP said, some people believe it was him all along. Truer words have never been spoken. That's right. A space-man toy, possibly possessed by Charles Lee Ray, landed on the moon after Andy rejected him too many times. Photogenic evidence has suggested that he is now up there, living in exile. You heard it here, folks!

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

What next? I suppose some idiots will start believing that Shenzi, Bonzai, and Ed were the first animals on Earth?

No, it wasn't Buzz Lightyear. He's a fictional character. It was Tim Allen that was the first person to walk on the moon. Jeez, some people are so stupid.

I think maybe those people just answered that as a joke. I dunno, but I don't want to believe that someone would actually say that.

I'm surprised these aren't those same people that believe the moon produces its own light.

Wait, seriously? But the Earth obviously casts a shadow on it; how do these people try to explain a crescent moon?

A sad, sad day in America when it's citizens don't even believe that one of it's most monumental achievements actually happened.

The site in the link is based in the UK, and the magazine that it references is registered in London.

Ever since I saw an expose where people were ambushed with questions on the National Mall, including one woman who couldn't answer a question when the answer was on the monument behind the reporter (I think it was 'what was the first state in the union' while they were on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial) I believe that there are a lot of people who don't care enough to bother with learning or retaining things. Its not that they're stupid, its that they just don't give a damn.
